Developer TT Games continues to push the envelope when it comes to cooperative gameplay designed for kids of all ages. The latest addition to the LEGO Star Wars franchise that launched the videogame craze that has seen LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Batman and LEGO Harry Potter features a brand new game engine. With improved visuals and a focus on the popular Clone Wars time period, which is basis for the hit animated series on Cartoon Network, the Force is strong with what will be one of the big games of 2011 – LEGO Star Wars III.
“LEGO Star Wars III has amazing Jedi with cool Force powers, our signature ‘drop-in/drop-out’ two-player co-op action, and a terrific variety of gameplay environments -- that much you'd expect from us,” said Jonathan Smith, head of production, TT Games. “But there's so much here that people won't expect, too. We have truly awesome battles, enabling you to build up massive forces in a completely new way. We added the ability to fly spacecraft, land them, jump out and fight on the ground. We’ve included a galaxy-spanning sweep, full of bonus content and long-term challenges. And there are incredible boss battles.”
The new game takes place during the entire Clone Wars era. The action starts in Geonosian Arena, as seen is the movie Star Wars Episode II: The Clone Wars, with Anakin, Obi-Wan and Padme facing execution. From there, the story covers many different episodes seen in The Clone Wars animated series, which remains a hit on Cartoon Network and on DVD.
“LEGO Star Wars III is a magical combination of the world's favorite toy with the world's favorite characters and stories,” added Wmith. “The fun of LEGO shines a new light on those well-loved adventures, and the drama of Star Wars gives an setting for LEGO creativity.”
Taking a page from the Star Wars film universe, the new game introduces SceneSwap, which is a new feature that allows players to take control of multiple teams in separate locations. Working together to complete various objectives, players will control each team through the press of a button, while playing in single player or in multiplayer co-op modes.
For the first time in the LEGO Star Wars franchise, fans will fight against massive bosses as seen in The Clone Wars animated series, including Gor, the epic Zillo Beast and many other favorites.
Gamers will be able to explore exotic locations in a variety of ships throughout 16 different star systems. Fans can choose to play as the villainous Separatists, the noble Republic heroes or even as bounty hunters, tracking down characters across the galaxy.
The game also offers expanded Force abilities. Using the Force in all-new ways to control LEGO objects, players will solve puzzles, access new areas, pick up and throw enemies -- even turning them into weapons. TT Games works closely with George Lucas’ companies to ensure that the game aligns with the film and television properties.
“It's a privilege and a pleasure to work with LucasFilm and LucasArts on LEGO Star Wars III,” said Smith. “It's a day-to-day relationship, since they are the holders of the entire Star Wars Universe. Their expert feedback is tremendously valuable.”
