Comic Con 2010: Disney Launches TRON Legacy App at ComiTRON
New app includes a game and exclusive content from Comic Con 2010
Disney has renamed Comic Con 2010, ComiTRON. In addition to an hour-long panel featuring new footage from the 3D Tron Legacy movie, Disney Interactive Studios will be showing new Tron Evolution games and new mobile games both in its booth and off-site at a recreation of Flynn’s arcade.
Disney's new TRON app for the iPhone and iPod touch launches next week in conjunction with the big show. The app will feature general news and information on the film - TRON: Legacy - as well as a new free game. There will also be a special ComiTRON area that will showcase news and information specific to events happening at the show and exclusive content for ComiTRON attendees. Additionally, the app will udpate as the film - premiering in December 2010 - draws closer to include new games, video, music and more.
Coming off the announcement of the company's acquisition of Tapulous, a Palo Alto-based leading developer of music games for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, Disney recently hit two major mobile milestones in the Apple App Store.
Disney's Toy Story 3 app for the iPhone and iPod touch has surpassed 1.7 million downloads in less than one month after launching on June 15, the movie's opening weekend. A Franchise Portal on the iPhone, Toy Story 3 lets fans play, personalize and stay connected to their favorite Toy Story characters, stories and happenings through both free and premium content.
In addition, JellyCar 2, the critically acclaimed driving platform game developed in conjunction with Disney employee Tim Fitzgerald (Walaber), has reached platinum status by surpassing 1 million downloads on the iPhone and iPod touch. The app launched on November 7, 2009 and immediately shot up to the #1 Paid App position in less than two days. In April of 2010, Disney released an iPad version of the game.
