One of the highlights for our trip to Comic-Con this year was attending the panel for Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, set for release on PlayStation 3 this November. The panel included the likes of behind-the-scenes folks at Naughty Dog, including Amy Hennig herself, as well as voice talent such as Nolan North and Emily Rose. It was a delightful sit-in, and not just because of a shirt giveaway. But, hey you can see for yourself.
In the panel, the team discussed what goes into the behind-the-scenes process of making a game as elaborate as Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, and the process goes much deeper than you think. The video includes the likes of North (Nathan Drake), Rose (Elena Fisher) and Richard McGonagle (Sully) dressing up in ball-layered suits and acting out their cut scenes, which are then in turn recreated in digital form for the game's cut scenes. This process was shown in both completed and rough form, and it's staggering to see what kind of technology Naughty Dog is using here. There's a reason these guys are pros.
Some great stories regarding the behind-the-scenes process were also shown, and for fun, there was also some video showing Nolan having a field day with grunts. It's almost if he had diarrhea or something. Ha!
Should you have missed the panel (or for some reason didn't have the opportunity to get in the room -- it was a packed house between journalists, gamers and the Nathan Drake look-alikes), Gamespot has posted the panel in its entirety, which we put into YouTube format in the clip below. Check it out, and get ready for Uncharted madness when it comes out later this year. We're sure damn good and ready.
Let's just hope Drake keeps the grunting to a minimum. Stay away from Taco Bell, man!!
