Released in 2006, Prey was one of the earliest games to come out on Xbox 360. It was met with decent reviews but was clearly one of those games released during the Summer to avoid the holiday rush of bigger games. Prey 2 is now set for release just six short years later and it looks to be much cooler than the first.
Human Head Studios has abandoned basically everything from the original Prey. They're both first person shooters, and that's about where the similarities end. Instead of trying to rescue your girlfriend through the linear corridors of an alien ship, you're now a bounty hunter on a open Bladerunner-esque alien world. Think Jango Fett but with more high tech gadgets and jets on your feet isntead of your back.
The trailer shows a chase sequence which emphasizes Mirror's Edge style free running along with more standard first person shooting and possibly a mark-and-execute system. Hopefully this blend will work better than it did in Brink. The alien being chased in the trailer has the ability to teleport, but other races could easily posess other unique abilities to help them avoid capture.
The trailer also hints at some sort of decision making system. The alien tries to offer you double or triple your fee to release him, and likely to go back and kill your original employer. This could make for some interesting story developments later on in the game regarding the friends and enemies you've made. We can also expect that you would use your payment to upgrade your gear.
Prey 2 is scheduled to release sometime in 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC
