Gears of War 3 has been a tremendous hit for both Microsoft and Epic Games since its launch last month, racking up three million units sold, with plenty more to follow over the holiday season. The epic trilogy conclusion was also a big hit with critics, who called it one of the most beautiful Xbox 360 gaming experiences out there. And now, just in time for the holiday push, it's getting its first batch of downloadable content. And we're more than ready for it.
The pack, which is dubbed the Horde Command Pack, will be available on Xbox Live starting November 1st. For those who purchased the $30 (2400 Microsoft point) season pass, it'll be available for no charge, and those who don't have the pass can buy it separately for $9.99 (800 Microsoft points). The pack will contain three new multiplayer maps, along with two additional skins and three new characters -- everything you need to expand the already enthralling multiplayer experience.
The first map is called Blood Drive, and it takes place in the Jacinto Medical Plaza, which used to be an ideal place to get patched up, but has now become a killzone, so to speak, filled with enemies and danger. The second map, Rustlung, takes place on a decommisioned battleship, and looks as if it's ready to fall apart at any given time. The third map, Azura, takes place on a tropical paradise that is anything but, thanks to the enemies that are running amuck. Each of these maps feature plenty of places to take out enemies, as well as hide out and plan strategic attacks.
A new fortification being thrown into this pack is the Command Center, where you can call upon support from snipers, mortar strikes and Hammers of Dawn when you find yourself in a pinch. You'll also find improvements to the Decoy, Sentry, and Silverback fortifications, when you need them the most.
Onyx Guard, Big Rig Dizzy, and Bernie just the playable cast of characters, each with their own specific weapons and fighting tactics. You can also map these characters with two new weapon skins, Team Plasma and Jungle Camo. Perfect for making your soldier feel more like a warrior.
Some of you might be thinking that the timing is too soon for the Gears of War DLC, but it's actually quite ideal. Microsoft's looking to get a jump on its competition, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, which also launches November 1st, and the fact the DLC will be released in the thick of some intense military action, between Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, so that helps too. Its release timing simply couldn't be better.
We'll be back with more coverage soon. Count the days, less than a month!
