Five Guesses: What Is Konami Planning For E3?

The company’s harboring a big secret. We’ve got some ideas what it might be.

Ahhh, the Electronic Entertainment Expo.  Every year, game companies show off their best wares at the event.  Some are clearly anticipated from previous announcements, while others are huge surprises that come out of left field.  Konami is no exception to this rule, as they’ve dominated E3 in the past with announcements such as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.  But even we’re left to wonder just what the company will announce at this year’s expo, as they’re planning a huge announcement.  That won’t stop us from guessing, though…

We can obviously leave out some of the lesser stuff that the company is known for, so don’t expect the announcement to be revolving around, say, a Dance Dance Revolution game or a new Frogger title…though we’re likely to see those somewhere on the floor.  So with that, it obviously ties in to a big franchise, which Konami has a lot of as we’ve seen over the years.  So what could it be?  Here goes our best guesses as to what the company will reveal…

That New Contra Game

Last year at E3, Konami’s announcements weren’t exactly noteworthy, but there was one particularly interesting hint that we could see more of this time around – a new Contra game.  The logo was shown last year during the pre-E3 showcase, and seeing as how Hard Corps: Uprising was already out at the time (it came out back three months prior), that means a possible new game will be introduced.  But who’s behind it?  And what platform is it for?  And most importantly, it’s in 2D, right?  Because the 3D Contras, as you’re probably aware, have sucked hardcore.  Here’s hoping that whatever this series’ future holds, it’s a good one.
