Maurice Jones-Drew Takes Home Madden Bowl XVI Trophy

Before Super Bowl XLIV was played, the Madden Bowl champion was crowned in South Beach
MJD took home this diamond-encrusted Xbox 360

Miami, Florida – There was more than just Super Bowl XLIV between the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts at stake this week in Miami. Maurice Jones-Drew took home the other trophy – a diamond encrusted Madden Bowl Xbox 360 console – at Madden Bowl XVI. In front of hundreds of NFL players at the swank Clevelander Hotel on South Beach, the Jacksonville Jaguars running back pummeled linebacker Patrick Willis of the San Francisco 49ers 13-3. MJD received his Madden Bowl bling presented by EA SPORTS President Peter Moore

The annual eight-man tournament, which was held outdoors, featured NFL pros Chris Johnson, Jared Allen, Santonio Holmes, Miles Austin, ? and Chad Ochocinco. There was a power outage in the first round that resulted in a game of “rock, paper, scissors” determining the winner – a Madden Bowl first.
EA Sports and Xbox 360 also offered another first at the Madden Bowl by adding a full roster of Strikeforce MMA fighters to the party. The game was shown behind closed doors to the fighters, who got a chance to go mano-a-mano with the latest build.

Since most NFL players are big videogame fans, there was no shortage of trash-talk at Madden Bowl XVI during the First Round competition.

Before the Big Game Sunday – for those who want to watch the game for the commercials, since EA has already predicted a Saints win 35-31 – check out this in-depth blowout from EA Sports’ Tiburon Studio, makers of the game. They’ve come up with the Madden NFL 10 Super Bowl XLIV Extravaganza!  Also, regarding the Saints, the Madden simulation has correctly picked five of the last six Super Bowl champions. That’s good news for Saints fans.

As for Madden NFL 11, for those who believe in the Madden curse, there’s a way to seek revenge on the opposing Super Bowl team. The Saints’ Drew Brees and the Colts’ Reggie Wayne are both vying for the cover athlete honor, along with Minnesota Viking Jared Allen. A vote in favor of the opposing team could result in an injury next year on the real field, which has been a trend over the past decade.
