Nate Robinson Beats DeMar DeRozan in NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest, Both Major Gamers

Nate Robinson Beats DeMar DeRozan for Third Slam Dunk Title

DALLAS, Texas - Nate Robinson beat out Raptors’ rookie DeMar DeRozan at the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest at 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend in Dallas Saturday night. Nate Robinson became the first three time Slam Dunk Contest champion as well as the first repeat winner of the title. Robinson received 51% of fan votes to edge DeRozan who won the Slam Dunk-In Friday night over Clippers’ Eric Gordon to be the fourth participant in the Slam Dunk Contest. “Krypto-Nate,” the nickname he earned jumping over Superman Dwight Howard to win the Slam Dunk Contest last year, promptly retired from slam dunking on top saying “No more titles. I’m finished. It’s the last one.”

Robinson beat DeRozan because of his creative final dunk. Robinson asked four Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders to join him on the court. He then proceeded to throw the ball off the backboard to himself for an emphatic dunk. He then raced towards the cheerleaders at midcourt, took a set of pom-poms from one of the cheerleaders and began waving the pom-poms to the arena crowd and throwing up his hands borrowing a gimmick from former Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver Terrell Owens. "I had to be creative and think of something fast," Robinson said. "I'm a football guy. Why not? We're in Dallas so why not pay homage to them." The NBA All-Star game Sunday will be played at Texas Stadium in front of what will be the biggest audience ever to watch a basketball game. The football stadium can seat up to 100,000 fans.

Robinson and DeRozan share one common thread. They are both big gamers and both could be seen at the Sony PlayStation Official Players’ Lounge checking out and playing some of Sony’s new games including God of War 3, MLB 10; The Show and Gran Turismo. In fact, DeMar DeRozan spent a few hours in the lounge Friday playing some God of War 3 as he relaxed before the Slam Dunk-In on Friday.
