NBA 2K12: Resolving the Rookie Situation

Now that the real NBA is back, 2K Sports will be moving right along with updates.

Well, it took long enough -- around 150 days to be precise -- but it now looks like the NBA is kicking into high gear again for a Christmas debut.  With that, some updates will be coming to NBA 2K12, 2K Sports' awesome basketball sim, that will reflect things happening within the season.  Among these updates will be the addition of rookies to the roster.

So here's how it works, officially, according to 2K Sports.  Once a rookie signs a contract with his team in real life, they'll have the full rights to update the game with him, including mentions of him in the commentary and any stats that would be reflective playing through NBA 2K12's simulations.  There will be no charge for this particular DLC, as it will be offered free of charge and shouldn't really take up much space as far as hard drive room is concerned.

This is a huge sigh of relief for fans of NBA 2K12, as they had to live with the "old" roster beforehand.  Granted, players were updated to their current teams (before the lockout), so that there were no odd placements or anything like that, but no real addition of "fresh blood", if you will.  With the rookie announcement, 2K is now free and clear to include these guys, letting you put them to the test against pros such as Kobe Bryant and a number of other legends within the game.

So breathe easy, guys.  You're getting your rookies.  And we're just getting started with our NBA 2K12 updates this week, as we'll also discuss the new Legends Showcase DLC that's coming this week, along with a review of the iPad edition.  Stay tuned.  And welcome back, NBA!
