Dallas – Nate Robinson braved the snow to perform in the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest and go for a record third title. Before wowing the crowd at the American Airlines Center during All-Star Saturday Night, Robinson was getting his videogame on at the Sony PlayStation Players’ Lounge inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Robinson talked about his own gaming prowess, gaming in the NBA and the chances on the Knicks getting All-Star LeBron James next season in this exclusive interview.
Nate, are you a big gamer?
Oh, everybody knows that—of course!
What kind of games do you like to play?
All games. I do a videogames section in Hoops magazine—it’s pretty cool. They send me games, I test them out, and give feedback. It’s awesome. I play Madden, I play games that guys probably wouldn’t even think about playing, some games people sleep on. But it’s cool—I’m a big gamer, and the whole world has my gamer tag.
Are some of your teammates also big gamers?
Yes, it’s kind of funny. My whole team two years ago, I went to their house, hooked up their Xbox Live, created their names and I made them play the game. I think it’s awesome—I have five or six guys who play the game.
Who wins, usually?
Usually me! But, guys are stepping up their game. Marty Collins beat me a couple of times in Madden. We have tournaments every road trip, so we play a lot.
Have you seen your computer likeness in NBA 2K10 yet?
It’s awesome! I played earlier today, and it’s cool!
What’s your signature move?
My hezzie. I do my hezzie with the floater, little layups. I might dunk—it depends on who’s under the hoop.
What’s your favorite dunk?
The windmill—it’s kinda hot. The tip dunk—they have the new tip dunk now, so if the ball comes off the rim, you can tip dunk it back. I think that’s pretty hot.
You and Dwight Howard have teamed up for the All-Star Games. What do you two have cooking up for this year’s?
I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m ready for whatever. It’s going to be pretty fun with the new arena in Dallas--I think that’s going to be kinda hot.
