ORLANDO -- Utah Jazz Forward Jeremy Evans used an aggressive write-in campaign to get into the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest here in Orlando at NBA All-Star Weekend. He used an aggressive two ball, mid-air dunk to win it. In the second of his three dunks, Evans caught two balls mid-air from Jazz teammate Gordon Haywood and slammed them down in succession for the best dunk of the night. We talked to Jeremy Evans before the Slam Dunk Contest in this exclusive video where he talks about getting dunk ideas off YouTube and wanting a higher slam dunk rating in NBA 2K12. After winning the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, we think he deserves to dunk better in NBA 2K12.
For his first dunk, Evans dunked with a camera on his head. For his third dunk, Evans paid tribute to the Mailman, Jazz great Karl Malone, by airmailing a dunk while posing in mid-air over comedian Kevin Hart, who was wearing a mailman costume.
Jeremy Evans Dunks Over Godon Haywood to Win Sprite Slam Dunk Contest
Evans beat Houston Rockets' Chase Budinger, Indiana Pacers' Paul George and Minnesota Timberwolves' Derrick Williams to win the contest. This year's contest featured the first all-fan voting system and only one round of competition with three dunks total instead of judge voting and two rounds in year's past. Evans lobbied aggressively to get into the contest and when New York Knicks' Iman Shumpert couldn't go, Evans got the call. Because of the late notice, Evans had to come up with dunks with only a few days of planning.
