The biggest names in basketball are battling for a chance to take home the NBA trophy. Although their bank accounts dwarf that of the average gamer, NBA All-Stars do have something in common with videogame fans. They log a lot of their free time playing games online on Xbox Live or PlayStation Network.
“I’m a big gamer,” said NBA All-Star Game MVP Kevin Durant. “That’s all I do when I’ve got free time.”
“I’ve played videogames since I was young…Mario Kart, NFL Blitz, NBA 2K,” said Los Angeles Clippers NBA All-Star Blake Griffin. “Normally I play Tiger Woods now. It’s a fun game and really well done.”
And yes, Griffin does pull out his copy of Rage every once in a while, having worked on the commercial for id Software’s shooter.
In general, not everyone wants to go back to the hardwoods after an especially grueling season this year, so basketball games aren’t always their first choice.
Los Angeles Lakers NBA All-Star Andrew Bynum prefers FIFA Soccer 12.
“I actually don’t play NBA 2K12,” said Bynum. “They don’t do that game as well as they do soccer. It’s just not a good game.”
“I play Tiger Woods on Xbox,” said Philadelphia Sixers NBA All-Star Andre Iguodala. “That’s my game. I’m good at that. I don’t use no spin, no power-ups. I’m good enough to play that without any of that stuff.”
