Title Fight: Sony's Super Smash Bros.?

Looks like it's the real deal after all.

Sony's gearing up for a strong 2012 season, between the upcoming Twisted Metal and Starhawk, the rumored God of War IV, and now a new project that's looking more like an actuality with each new day.  The project is called Title Fight, and it looks to be Sony's equivalent of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros., with several familiar characters duking it out for supremacy.

The details, first posted earlier today by Eurogamer, indicate that the game is being developed by SuperBot Entertainment, and looks to be on par for a late 2012 release on PlayStation 3.  Some hints and details have leaked out about it, including some images.  (We've included one of SuperBot's offices below.)

It appears, according to one of the screenshots, that Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal is a playable character, and can "level up" to the point that he transforms into his ice cream truck mech suit to stomp enemies all over the screen.  It appears that Kratos from God of War will be in the game as well.  Other rumored characters include Sly Cooper, Nathan Drake (Uncharted), Colonel Mael Radec (Killzone) and Fat Princess.  (Cole McGrath from Infamous could make the cut as well.)

Over the weekend, senior level designer for SuperBot, Chris Molina, posted on his (now deleted, probably thanks to Sony) Twitter page, "Our capture station and waiting area - Parappa [the Rappa] is a permanent resident," providing indication he may be in the game as well.  (Hope he brings Master Onion.)

Other Tweets include, "Slam! Second level design pitch approved by our studio leads! Now onto Sony Santa Monica for a final green light." as well as "New Sony Playstation commercial vaguely foreshadowing our soon to be announced title." and "Checking out the original art assets from a Sony IP title we're appropriating for my level - very cool seeing this environment in raw form."

The game, first hinted at by a site called the Paul Gale Network, will also feature a few backgrounds from other non-fighting games, including a Jak and Daxter background, a Hot Shots Golf course, and even a Buzz!-style mini-game, where players can answer questions inbetween rounds.

But probably the strangest rumor of all is that Sony could possibly be throwing James Bond into the mix, since his new movie, Skyfall, is set to debut around the same time next year.  "Sony's involvement in the new Bond film and the fact that it'd almost coincide with this game's release (and quite possibly God of War 4 as well)", according to the Paul Gale Network site.

Interesting.  While the Smash Bros. concept is quite original in Nintendo's camp, it'll be interesting to see which way Sony takes it.  Stay tuned for more official info.
