1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar Games/Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)
Nothing can beat the story of John Marston when it comes to Wild West stories in video games. Rockstar Games took the formula that was moderately well done with Red Dead Revolver and gave it fundamental new life for Redemption, and as a result, the experience flourished in ways that the developer couldn’t even imagine. Featuring a full free-roaming engine, hours of activities (including poker and running people over with trains), solid gameplay (the Deadeye shooting made quick draw contests exciting again), great voice acting and exquisite visuals, Rockstar really outdid themselves with this effort. Two years later, it’s still excellent to play – and packs a wallop with its ending, straight out of a classic Western flick.
So what are your favorite Wild West games?
