Dead Space has horrified audiences since it first started in 2008. You played as Isaac Clark, a ship systems engineer on titan station when all hell breaks lose. Setting the tone for the series is the soundtrack done by Jason Graves. Graves score in the series is chilling and often leaves players on the edge of their seat. In Dead Space 2, he used a wide range of instruments to horrify the player. Screeching violins, vibrant ambient noises and roaring electric guitars always kept the game fresh as you continued to fight against necromorphs. but do fans notice? Do people look at soundtracks as a whole or as background noise?

A couple of months ago in Denver, Colorado, an event called the Pinball Showdown was held, and pinball makers and fans of all types got together to celebrate the machines of old, as well as new ones coming from manufacturers.  Along with Stern’s AC/DC pinball machine (and the recently announced X-Men), Jersey Jack Pinball brought details on its debut effort, one based on the cinematic classic The Wizard of Oz.  We managed to talk with the founder of the company, “Jersey Jack” himself, Jack Guarnieri, about what to expect from the table.

Timothy Michael Wynn has scored music in the video game industry since 2005. He has worked on known game franchises like Command & Conquer, Warhawk and Red Faction. You might have heard his work on CW’s Supernatural. His best work was in Warhawk as gave its vibrant atmosphere that suit it’s military theme. It’s Wynn’s behind the scenes work that helped make the game stand out from the rest, but do fans notice? Do people look at soundtracks as a whole or as background noise?

Over the years, we’ve gotten used to understanding what a Fable game is supposed to be like.  Under the guise of Peter Molyneux and his team at Lionhead Studios, we’ve played through three games, all of which featured memorable quests, with different decisions to make and the ability to control your fate however you chose.  By Fable III, however, the formula was getting a little dry, so Microsoft began looking for ideas on how to expand it.  And one of those ideas was the previously announced Fable: The Journey, an exclusive project for Xbox 360’s Kinect device.

Last fall, Epic’s Gears Of War franchise came to a close. It has helped form the third person shooter genre as various publishers have adapted the Unreal Engine. The series launched in 2006 with Kevin Riepl designing the score for the game. The signature Gears Of War echo came from him and has been echoed through out the series. The thunderous bass, drums and orchestral clashing together are what fans come to expect. Riepi also showed his full repertoire by creating the somber and depressing times in Gears Of War, but do fans notice? Do people look at soundtracks as a whole or as background noise?

Konami had a pretty killer show this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.  Though Castlevania: Lords of Shadow II was present in video form only, it did have plenty of other playable games to offer, including the Lords of Shadow spin-off Mirror of Fate for 3DS, Zone of the Enders HD Collection, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and Frogger Pinball.  But in the middle of all this was its next soccer champion, Pro Evolution Soccer 2013, or PES 2013 for short.

On Monday we talked with Sam Hulick, Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco about composing the Mass Effect soundtrack. This time we had the privilege of talking about another Bioware’s dark fantasy RPG series, Dragon Age. The series has many similarities from Mass Effect like interweaving dialogue choices throughout the current installments. However Unlike the Mass Effect series, score is done by one man. Inon Zur has been the franchises leading composer since day one, helping atmosphere behind the series. It’s an underrated soundtrack, but do people notice? Do people look at soundtracks as a whole or as background noise?

Is Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City on it's way to PS3? The ESRB recently rated both games with a stereotypical M rating for the PS3. This shouldn’t come of as a surprise as rumors of GTA V release this fall or in 2013 early continue to ramp up.

Astro Gaming has thrust themselves into the forefront for gaming headphone technology, right alongside the other “big cats” like Turtle Beach and even Sony with their headsets.  Their latest model, the A40’s, proved to be quite popular with the gaming public, but that isn’t stopping the company from progressing forward with an even more advanced model.  Say hello to the A50’s, which are coming sooner than you think.

It’s been nearly 12 years since we’ve seen Tekken Tag Tournament, Namco’s off-shoot in its fighting franchise, where you could tag team between two characters when facing off against enemies, switching them out with tactics and engaging in some rather creative melees as a result.  We’re supposing that the company preferred the “one vs. one” option for so long, as they demonstrated in Tekken 4, Tekken 5 and Tekken 6.  But finally, we’re getting a return of team fighting madness with Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which is set to hit Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this September, with a Wii U release to follow later in the year.

It’s been two years since Firaxis Games released the fifth installment into the legendary Sid Meier Civilization series. The game has been made available on Mac, while integrating the game into Steam’s workshop. During that time, the games bugs and glitches hurt the online multiplayer have been removed. Many have moved on from the game, but this week a new expansion is available called Civilization: Gods & Kings. With this new expansion is it worth revisiting CIV V?

Early this year, Bioware’s Mass Effect saga came to five year run. Rest aside the ending; the series is one of the most complete trilogies in video game history. There are two aspects that Mass Effect nails perfectly. The series was first to interweave choices all the way through the third and final installment captivating fans from start to finish. However, you can’t tell a great story if you forget to create the atmosphere for your game to breath in. The music in the game really doses shape Commander Shepard with it having one of the best scores in gaming, but do people notice? Do people look at soundtracks as a whole or as background noise?
