A blinding blue blur, collecting tons of rings, spouting witty catch phrases, and defeating Dr. Eggman (or Dr. Robotnic depending on the version) are all things you think of when you hear the name Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic is one of the most recognizable faces of the console generation in the 90’s. The franchise has spawned everything from cartoons to comic books. It has also spawned a list of atrocities sequels and spin off games. “Sonic Adventure 2 HD” is a reminder of when Sonic stopped being about speed, and stopped being fun.

There have been times in history where near the end of a console’s life cycle, a great game is created. A game that challenges and rewards the player while providing a story that the gamer wants to see continue into the next generation of consoles. With the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 currently nearing the end of their current lifespans, is “Dishonored” the final original gem of this console generation? The answer is… Yes.

The Sega Saturn was home to a rather whimsical set of releases, many of which strayed from the norm in ways the general public probably wasn't ready for. Knowing gamers, Sega's bizarre, colorful, and surreal NiGHTS into Dreams was a member of the strange game camp, attracting players with a purple-clad protagonist and the promise of navigating dreams.

Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit is the video game your grandmother hates. A weird postmodern jumble of gratuitous gore, gaudy colors and vulgar creatures. Here a robot-legged panda will shoot at you with bouncing tic-tac-shaped lasers, as elsewhere a huge Spartan-masked scorpion spews waves of neon-bordered playing cards from its stinger. In this 2D platformer, your victims—98 more abominations like the ones above—must pay the price for having enjoyed humiliating photos of you in the bathtub. Anything goes.

There are a number of great beat-em-ups to choose from on Xbox Live Arcade, including X-Men The Arcade Game, The Simpsons Arcade and, of course, the always favorable Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  But folks out there might be seeking something a little more contemporary when it comes to beating people to a pulp, and that's where QOOC Soft's Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise comes in.  The idea is still the same – beat down a bunch of thugs and be the last man standing – but it takes place inside enclosed 3D arenas, and adds some gameplay gimmicks to be a bit more diversifying.  There's more satisfaction to it than we first expected, but it isn't quite the noble warrior it could've been.

Upon seeing the launch trailer to this game I was really expecting to play a mindlessly over-the-top, silly and lighthearted samurai action/adventure game in a similar style to the likes of Saints Row, but what you get with Way of the Samurai 4 by developer Acquire is something a lot more reminiscent of a teenage boy who can’t decide whether he wants to grow up or hold onto his immature ways.

Ubisoft is set to release their new Assassin’s Creed this October and to bring us what seems to be the most anticipated game of the year. It is not an easy task  to produce a third title to such a brilliant and successful franchise. The first game was great and almost created a new genre in itself. Developing the second was already a risk. Many tried to release follow up and many have failed. The secret is supposedly straight forward though, take the good, make it better and rub a few flaws away. Easier said than done, but surfing the wave is the way. However, that cannot work for a third iteration. You need to replicate the success to reinvent yourself; you need a fresh gameplay while keeping the atmosphere and the emotion of the license. To find that balance takes a touch of genius and some very, very hard work. And that seems to be what Ubisoft and its army of more than 700 individuals through five studios around the world have spent the last three years working towards.

Deep Black is a downloadble game available on the PS3. Deep Black is your basic cover based run & gun shooter that attempts to put an interesting twist on the genre by changing the setting. Lately we have seen these shooters set in apocalyptic locations like Gears of War or a desert constantly plagued with sand storms such as Spec Ops: The Line, and Deep Black attempts to place players into a new environment, under the sea. Now that catchy little tune from the “Little Mermaid” is in your mind, lets get to the review.
