With the movie still playing on IMAX 3D (and selling out in many cities), AVATAR is also a blockbuster on home video. A few days after the film’s producer, Jon Landau, spoke at the inaugural 3D Gaming Summit, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced that James Cameron’s AVATAR became the best selling Blu-ray of all time after just four days in stores.

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – In this digital age when Disney’s Pixar Studios are only making CGI movies in full Disney 3D and DreamWorks Animation is focused solely on computer-generated 3D films, Walt Disney Pictures has literally gone back to the drawing board with its latest faerie tale adaptation, The Princess and the Frog – out now on Blu-ray Disc and DVD. But the studio is keeping this franchise connected with today’s gaming audience. Disney Interactive Studios has a pair of games out in tandem with the home video release. And rather than regurgitating the on-screen adventure that Tiana and the prince have through the city and outlying bayou of New Orleans, the Wii and Nintendo DS games from Griptonite Games and Amaze serve as sequels to the big screen action.

Over the weekend, while Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland continued to woo 3D audiences with a $34.5 million gross and a $265.8 million total gross; James Cameron’s Avatar remained in eighth place with a $4 million take and a U.S. total of $736.9 million. With the first Avatar DVD and Blu-ray Disc heading home on April 22nd from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Cameron recently told USA Today that he hopes to bring the 3D movie back to theaters with more footage -- as much as 40 more minutes.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment’s latest action film, GAMER, takes a look at the dark side of videogame culture. The movie stars Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, Amber Valletta, and Kyra Sedgwick. Within this future world, videogames allow players to control actual human beings. Games like Slayers offer first-person shooting action with death row inmates as the warriors and the bait. Society turns The Sims into a real-life hook-up experience with actual people being controlled by gamers at home. Valletta, who has appeared in blockbusters like What Lies Beneath and Hitch, stars alongside Butler in this action film from the creators of the Crank franchise. Actor Michael C. Hall stars in the new Lionsgate Home Entertainment Blu-ray Disc and DVD release, GAMER. The acclaimed actor is having a convergence moment. Best known for playing a serial killer who tries only to kill the bad guys in Showtime’s “Dexter,” Hall can be seen on the small screen as Ken Castle, a videogame tycoon who blends real people with virtual games, in GAMER. Hall has also gone virtual in Marc Ecko Entertainment’s and developer Icarus Studios’ Dexter videogame, which is out now on iPhone and iPod Touch. Hall took some time to talk about his latest movie and his first venture into videogames in this exclusive interview.

LAS VEGAS – Sony used the main stage at its booth at the Consumer Electronics Show to showcase its latest Blu-ray Disc technology. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will debut movieIQ Sync, the company’s first portable BD-Live feature, on the Blu-ray release of MICHAEL JACKSON’S THIS IS IT, in stores January 26, 2010.

PlayStation 3 owners are getting more for their money in the Blu-ray Disc department starting in 2010. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced two Blu-ray packaging initiatives that will give consumers greater value and portability when shopping for the best possible way to watch movies at home.  Beginning in the first quarter of 2010, Warner Home Video will be releasing its entire Theatrical New Release slate as Blu-ray combo packs, containing a Blu-ray Disc of the film with exclusive special features and exciting BD-Live interactivity, a standard-definition DVD and a Digital Copy of the film.
