NEW ORLEANS – Although CCP Games has put its massively multiplayer online (MMO) game based on its popular World of Darkness franchise on the backburner to focus on EVE Online and Dust 514, development continues on the game. Chris McDonough, one of the visionaries behind the MMO, was on hand at the CCP Games Grand Masquerade in New Orleans to offer some new details about the MMO game in the exclusive video interview below.

Trion Worlds, a leading publisher and developer of premium games for the connected era, has completed an $85 million round of strategic growth equity financing, led by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (Teachers’), one of the world's leading pension funds focused on direct investments in both public and private equities. Also participating was current Trion investor Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG, a leading international media company. Trion will utilize the financing to further grow its worldwide premium online games business. With George Lucas taking flight with his new Red Tails movie in theaters, his LucasArts division continues to have success with Star Wars games. With over four years of development, a team of 200 employees and a reported budget of $80 million, Electronic Arts has come under fire of late for BioWare’s massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, Star Wars: The Old Republic. But Michael Pachter, videogame analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities, said the game has already sold 2 million copies worldwide. And the game is already a huge success and money generator for EA, as well as licensor LucasArts.

En Masse Entertainment is launching its fantasy massively multiplayer online (MMO) game TERA to North America on May 1, 2012. The upcoming release of TERA will be available in standard and Collector’s Editions at retail and online stores. Marking a new era in gaming, TERA sets a new standard by delivering true action combat to players who want more than the stale and repetitive gameplay that exists in today’s MMOs. The developer talks about the new game, which is powered by Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3, in this exclusive video interview below.

At the EVE Online Fanfest 2012 event in March, CCP Games will be launching each and every EVE subscriber with a paying EVE account as of 23:59 GMT on December 31, 2011 into ORBIT. The character names and images of every player character subscribed at the end of this year will be placed in an expertly crafted EVE Pod during the yearly Iceland celebration. That pod will then be affixed to a high-altitude balloon during the event and released, reverse planetary bombardment style.

One of the first purchases I ever made when I got the original Xbox along with a couple duke controllers, was a little game developed by Bioware called Knights of the Old Republic. I was only ten years old at the time and it came out during the prequel Star Wars era. That was my first Bioware game and was immediately blown away with how great it was. It had an amazingly crafted storyline, great gameplay and had one of the greatest twists in video gaming history. It set up so many personal milestones for me as it made me into the Star Wars fan I am today.

Electronic Arts-owned BioWare’s first MMO game, Star Wars: The Old Republic just before Christmas, and already fan engagement is setting new standards for an MMO game launch. The game is the fastest-growing subscription MMO in history, with more than one million registered players since launching on December 20, 2011. BioWare and EA are limiting sales of the reported $100 million game into 2012 in an attempt to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all while further growing the community.

Hollywood and gaming continue to converge with Bigpoint’s Battlestar Galactica Online. Over 7 million registered users have engage in space combat, either fighting for the Cylons or for the Colonials in an assortment of spaceships from the films and television series. After successfully concluding one of the largest-ever Beta tests for an MMO, BioWare is now making final preparations for one of the biggest entertainment launches of the year as Star Wars: The Old Republic reaches stores on December 20, 2011 in North America. Gamers can get a head-start in this epic online universe through pre-orders. Players can use Early Game Access starting December 13. LOS ANGELES -- Riot Games today announced that over four million people play League of Legends on a daily basis, a 280% increase since Riot Games last announced the size of its League of Legends community in July 2011. With 11.5 million active monthly players and peak concurrency reaching 1.3 million, League of Legends enters its second competitive season as one of the top five PC games in North America and Europe with a registered player base of over 30 million worldwide. “It’s staggering to think about the fact that over a billion games of League of Legends have been played since launch,” said Marc Merrill, co-founder and President of Riot Games. “In 2012, we intend to deliver even more for our growing audience.”

Chinese online game company ZQGame has partnered with Los Angeles-based SEE Games to create, co-invest in, and publish an original MMO (massively multiplayer online) game based on Sony Pictures Entertainment’s 2012 summer event film, Total Recall (2012), starring Colin Farrell. The deal represents the first time a Hollywood entity has partnered with a game company from China to develop an online game in-full.

NEVERDIE Studios, creators of the ROCKtropia Virtual World, a sophisticated, next-gen, cash prize-based game world with mythology drawn from pop culture, has launched a unique, in-game event for players of its recently released massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, Hunt The Thing. This new movie-length MMO event is inspired by Universal Pictures’ current thriller The Thing, now in theatres nationwide. The game was developed using Crytek’s CryENGINE2 technology.
