With the season finale of Discovery Channel’s hit series, “Deadliest Catch,” celebrating the life of Captain Phil Harris, Sig Hansen made a recent trek to E3 2010 during the off season to talk about his new Deadliest Catch: Sea of Chaos videogame from Crave Entertainment. The game will be available this October on PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS and digitally on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Videogame pioneer Will Wright, the creator of SimCity and Spore, will lead “Why Games are (Good) for Learning,” a discussion on how digital games encourage learning, on Wednesday, February 17, 6 – 7 p.m. at the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University. The event, presented by the Games for Learning Institute (G4LI), is free and open to the public, but a ticket is required for entry and seating is limited. The event is co-sponsored by the NYU Game Center, Games for Change, and Microsoft Research.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, North Carolina – Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 technology is fueling a major new government and commercial partnership that will send gamers to the moon, Mars and Beyond. Virtual Heroes has partnered with serious game developers Motion in Place and Project Whitecard to develop a new massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game with the help and resources of NASA. This new subscription-based game, Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond, will launch in phases beginning with a playable demo late this year.

Although overall videogame sales have been down seven of the last eight months compared to the record-breaking 2008, games are still the driving force in entertainment, as well as electronics and toys today. The $550 million, five-day haul that Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 raked in – the largest entertainment launch in history -- shows the power of interactive entertainment even amidst the tough economic climate.

Morgan Brown, one of Bang Camaro’s 10 to 20 lead singers, loves his videogames. But he loves his adoring female fans more. The heavy metal band that hails from Boston has a new record, Bang Camaro II, and a new deal with Electronic Arts‘ music label, Artwerk Music, which means even more exposure in videogames. The band’s new song, “Revolution,” is featured in The Sims 3.

While gamers might not be familiar with the band’s name, they’ve definitely heard their music in both Rock Band and Guitar Hero, as well as the PC game Titan Quest. And anyone who’s seen the band perform in a dingy rock club will remember them for both their music and their size. They take up the stage, literally, with 10 to 20 singers for every live show. Brown talks about the past, present and future of rock’s role in videogames, and why he won’t be playing Activision’s DJ Hero, in this exclusive interview.

Because both games were designed by Will Wright, there have been a lot of comparisons between The Sims and Spore. While The Sims has sold over 100 million units worldwide (and counting) through its many spin-offs, which includes a movie and a TV show, Spore had a record debut and has unleashed multiple new titles across consoles.
