It’s getting more affordable to go portable. Nintendo is dropping the price of its Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL videogame systems. Effective Sept. 12, the new suggested retail price of the Nintendo DSi system will be $150, while the new suggested retail price for the Nintendo DSi XL system will be $170. The Nintendo DS Lite model will remain at a suggested retail price of $130. The Nintendo DS family of video game systems is the best-selling in the history of the U.S. and worldwide. The new prices offer consumers tremendous value for their money while providing access to the best portable video game experiences possible.

300 American colleges, universities, art and trade schools will offer degrees in videogame design, development, programming and art during the 2010-11 academic year, according to new research from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). The degrees offered at these institutions represent an almost 20 percent increase over 2009-10.  The head of The Guildhall at Southern Methodist University talks about the role education plays in game development in this exclusive video interview.

The computer and video game industry added nearly $5 billion to the U.S. economy in 2009, according to a new study released today by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). The study, Video Games in the 21st Century: The 2010 Report, also found that the entertainment software industry's real annual growth rate from 2005 to 2009 exceeded 10 percent, more than seven times the growth rate of the U.S. economy as a whole.

While Drew Brees and the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints were at the White House, EA Sports celebrated the launch of the 22nd edition Madden with a Mardi Gras-themed event in New Orleans, entitled Madden Gras. As part of the event, EA SPORTS Orlando-based Tiburon studio, which develops the game, will make a $100,000 donation to the National Wildlife Federation to assist in the Gulf Coast oil spill relief and wetlands restoration efforts.
