With the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings set to kick-off the 2011 NFL Season, EA Sports has used Madden NFL 11 to get an early look. After getting a taste of the NFL Playoffs during the 2009 season, the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers are expected to build on last year’s performance by securing their conference’s best record in 2010 according to the official Madden NFL 11 regular season simulation. With less than a week before the season kicks off, EA SPORTS predicted divisional winners, league leaders and individual award winners for the 2010 NFL season.

The app showcases the technical capabilities of Epic’s award-winning Unreal Engine 3 on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. 300 American colleges, universities, art and trade schools will offer degrees in videogame design, development, programming and art during the 2010-11 academic year, according to new research from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). The degrees offered at these institutions represent an almost 20 percent increase over 2009-10.  The head of The Guildhall at Southern Methodist University talks about the role education plays in game development in this exclusive video interview.

There's a reason why the videogame industry treats videogame journalists so well. The Guildhall at Southern Methodist University  and Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) recently conducted a behavioral study to measure the influence professional critic reviews have on purchase behavior, willingness to recommend, and consumer perception of individual video game titles.  The results reinforce the industry’s assumptions of a strong causal link between professional critic reviews and their ability to affect consumers’ actions and perceptions.

The ESA released its annual Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry report. The 2010 survey confirmed that computer and video game play remains widespread, and that game play is an increasingly social activity. Sixty seven percent of American households play computer and video games, and 62 percent of gamers say they play with other gamers in person at least one hour per week. Family play has also grown in popularity, with nearly half of all parents (48 percent) reporting they play with their children at least once per week.
