For a long time, EA Sports has been criticized for releasing yearly additions of Madden to its audience. Problems that have existed in the franchise have plague the franchise until now. Madden 13 releases on the brink of a new console generation and Tiburon Studios pulled out all the fireworks to go out in style. Madden 13 thoughtout everything that was dragging the series down, resulting in one of the most complete sports games in this console generation.

Today, 2K Sports unveiled the first screenshots and new gameplay footage of their best-selling basketball game NBA 2K13. The screenshots feature cover athletes Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers and Derrick Rose on the Chicago Bulls. 2K Sports also released gameplay footage highlighting the Control Stick in NBA 2K13.

In true celebrity fashion, the "surprise guest" for the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 display was growing late to the party by the minute. The sparsely dressed, gleaming eyed booth babe's plastered smiles wavered as they grew fatigued. Some guy with a big rim around his neck continued to waddle around, his purpose not exactly clear. The amassed crowd began to shift in their seats just as a commotion stirred in the back of the stage. Poof! Smoke hissed to cloud the entrance (in a very appropriate manner) of the Doggfather himself: Snoop Dogg.

Konami had a pretty killer show this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.  Though Castlevania: Lords of Shadow II was present in video form only, it did have plenty of other playable games to offer, including the Lords of Shadow spin-off Mirror of Fate for 3DS, Zone of the Enders HD Collection, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and Frogger Pinball.  But in the middle of all this was its next soccer champion, Pro Evolution Soccer 2013, or PES 2013 for short.

All aboard the hype train for NBA 2K13.  2K Sports' latest basketball simulation is just over three months from release, set to arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 4th (and on the Wii U when it arrives at retail), and promises a bunch of changes that will certainly make it the most realistic one that the company's released. And to help push the hype further, 2K has chosen a trifecta of current NBA superstars to grace the cover, a step forward from the solo cover stars that graced it previously.  Surprisingly enough, currently crowned NBA champ LeBron James nor series favorite Kobe Bryant are amongst the three stars.

In just a matter of months, the new NBA season will kick in, and teams will challenge the recently championship crowned Miami Heat for superiority.  And in the video game world, the basketball war will heat up once more, with EA Sports’ returning NBA Live 13 going head-to-head against 2K Sports’ winning franchise, NBA 2K13.  We already did a news piece talking about the game in action, but now we’ve gone one step further, chatting with its producer, Erick Boenisch, about what to expect this time around.  Complete with game footage!

Tonight, Nintendo aired its latest Nintendo Direct Internet special, one that’s coming just two weeks after its E3 showcase, where it displayed the Wii U in action, along with various 3DS titles.  Now, the bad news is tonight’s presentation didn’t feature any new information about the new Wii U.  However, we did learn about a new model for the Nintendo 3DS, as well as when it launches.  There’s some other news as well – including who’s working on the new Super Smash Bros. game.

It’s been nearly 12 years since we’ve seen Tekken Tag Tournament, Namco’s off-shoot in its fighting franchise, where you could tag team between two characters when facing off against enemies, switching them out with tactics and engaging in some rather creative melees as a result.  We’re supposing that the company preferred the “one vs. one” option for so long, as they demonstrated in Tekken 4, Tekken 5 and Tekken 6.  But finally, we’re getting a return of team fighting madness with Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which is set to hit Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this September, with a Wii U release to follow later in the year.

When it was first released last year, Batman: Arkham City did more than turn a few heads.  It defined exactly what a comic book-oriented game was supposed to be.  Featuring a larger environment than the original Batman: Arkham Asylum, breathtaking amounts of stuff to do within the prison-like city, awesome gameplay ranging from gliding to fighting enemies on the ground, and plenty of unique story twists, it set the standard for games that will follow in the years to come.  And with that, WB Games was probably wondering, “Why let Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC owners have all the fun?”

Early this year, Bioware’s Mass Effect saga came to five year run. Rest aside the ending; the series is one of the most complete trilogies in video game history. There are two aspects that Mass Effect nails perfectly. The series was first to interweave choices all the way through the third and final installment captivating fans from start to finish. However, you can’t tell a great story if you forget to create the atmosphere for your game to breath in. The music in the game really doses shape Commander Shepard with it having one of the best scores in gaming, but do people notice? Do people look at soundtracks as a whole or as background noise?

The idea behind E3 was to showcase the latest and brightest games of 2012, but there are always a few games that disappoint us. Some games on our list made serious changes to their formula, and not for the better. Other games took center stage at E3 when they shouldn’t have. There were many games at E3, but here is our top five list of disappointments.

Ubisoft had a huge set-up on the E3 show floor this week, with a number of major sequels available for play, as well as two new Wii U titles coming out in time for the system’s launch later this year.  But one of its hidden gems, tucked away in a behind-closed-doors section in its offices, was The Avengers: Battle For Earth.  Based on the popular Marvel franchise of the same name, this game demonstrated some proper use of Kinect motions when it came to controlling some of your favorite superheroes and villains.  So, of course, we were eager to give it a test drive.

Jesper Kyd has been working his music composing magic in a number of projects over the years.  Fans will immediately recognize his work from the Assassin's Creed series, as well as entries in the Hitman series and the original Borderlands.  But now he's stepping his game up with Death, producing an epic new soundtrack for Darksiders II, which releases this August.  We had a chance to chat with him about the upcoming game, as well as what else he's working on.

This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo was supposed to be the place where Nintendo would proclaim domination with its Wii U device, and show the world what its next gen system could do.  And while there were more than enough games to go around, Nintendo themselves only had so many surprises up its sleeve, with the main one being…Nintendoland?  That said, the company came up short in its presentation, and we count the five most crucial ways they did so.
