In its early days, THQ was best known as a kids game maker working with brands from Nickelodeon and Disney based on Hollywood TV shows and movies. But the Hollywood licensing business has dried up with the higher costs of development and the advances of smartphones and tablets (where those licenses still thrive). THQ isn’t exiting the games business, as had been rumored a few weeks ago. Instead, the game company is exiting the kids games business in favor of successful franchises like Saints Row.

While Arnold Schwarzenegger is back in Hollywood making millions of dollars on new movies, he’s left a debt to the people of California. The state of California agreed to reimburse the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) $950,000 for legal fees incurred from the trade association’s recent U.S. Supreme Court victory, ESA announced today. The U.S. Supreme Court case was the latest result of then-Governor Schwarzenegger and State Senator Leland Yee’s (D-San Francisco) ill-fated attempt to impose clearly unconstitutional regulations on video games. ESA announced it would donate a portion of the proceeds to develop after-school educational programs for underserved communities in Oakland and Sacramento.

Here's a bit of a rhetorical question. What's scarier, EA's Origin service existing passed 2012 or SOPA and PIPA? Trick question, they are both pretty equally terrifying. Yes, I'm a lifelong basketball fan, and yes, I can name each and every single player in that intro scene. Even though I'm an all around gamer at heart, I truly enjoy playing sports titles the most--as I'm an avid sports fan as well. And while I've forgiven the NBA for their incredibly petchulant ways this past offseason, NBA2K12 was what keep my interest piqued. So, while NBA 2K12 is still fresh on my mind, I want to make some predictions/suggestions for 2KGames as we inch closer to NBA 2K13 later this year.
