Rather than make the obvious Prince "party like it's 1999" joke (like EVERY other site is doing), we thought we'd deliver it to you straight -- when Bioshock Infinite releases later this year, it's going to pound you.  Like it's 1999.  That's the name of a new mode that Irrational Games is adding to the highly anticipated follow-up, one that will test your gamer skills to your very core.

2K Games is bringing back the XCOM franchise in a big way. After showcasing a first-person shooter XCOM game from 2K Marin at E3 last year, now the game publisher has revealed a second game. Firaxis Games, the creative team behind the iconic Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise, is developing XCOM: Enemy Unknown for 2012. The action strategy title should be instantly recognizable to fans of the original X-COM, while breaking new ground in strategy games for today’s console and Windows PC gamers. With equal emphasis on deep strategy and intense tactical combat, XCOM: Enemy Unknown will place players in control of a secret paramilitary organization called XCOM. As the XCOM commander, players will defend against a terrifying global alien invasion by managing resources, advancing technologies, and overseeing combat strategies and individual unit tactics. The game will feature a variety of alien enemy types as well as a new base setup.

"Basketball is my favorite sport, I love the way they dribble up and down the court." Every time I turn on my Xbox 360 and boot up NBA 2K12, I absolutely love hearing that song. Yes, I'm a lifelong basketball fan, and yes, I can name each and every single player in that intro scene. Even though I'm an all around gamer at heart, I truly enjoy playing sports titles the most--as I'm an avid sports fan as well. And while I've forgiven the NBA for their incredibly petchulant ways this past offseason, NBA2K12 was what keep my interest piqued. So, while NBA 2K12 is still fresh on my mind, I want to make some predictions/suggestions for 2KGames as we inch closer to NBA 2K13 later this year.

The holiday season is officially upon us at sundown tonight. Children will be gathered around their Channukah menorahs, spinning their dreidels, eating potato latkes--and inviting their gentile friends to partake in the traditions that were so foreign and interesting in elementary school--at least that's what the kids told me back then. Then, a few days later that naughty or nice list will be coming into play as kids all over the world run down the stairs to see if the red-sutied cookie monster aka Santa Claus has brought them some amazing gifts. Gamers though--what do we want for all the holidays? Isn't it obvious--GAMES. We're going to give you oblivious gift-seekers five games to run to the stores to sweep up for the gamer in your life featuring NBA 2K12, among others.

It’s a little annoying to see sports games get downloadable content added on a couple of months after their release, mainly because folks already spent so much money for the main product and now have to plunk down a few extra bucks for some more good stuff.  But that’s how business rolls for other games these days, so it’s not a big deal.  Plus, when it’s as good as NBA 2K12’s new Legends Showcase, you really see where the value adds up.

Duke Nukem Forever may not have been a hit with all the critics (one even went as far as to rate it a 0 out of 10...wow, really?), but the fact of the matter is, it was still a success with 2K Games, and no doubt that the Duke will return for a sequel somewhere down the road.  In the meantime, Gearbox is packing this game's release with plenty of DLC, and this Tuesday it'll have a whole new batch for dedicated Duke dudes and dudettes to play around with.

Gearbox Software is developing a cel-shaded sequel to its Unreal Engine 3 hit, Borderlands. One of the big games of 2012, 2K Games will ship Borderlands 2 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Combining invention and evolution, the sequel features all new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.

There were a lot of memorable moments that came about in 2K Games' Borderlands when it released in 2010.  Dancing robots.  Huge explosions.  A mammoth boss battle or two.  Then there's Crazy Earl, a character that not only stood out in his own right with his craziness, but also expanded the campaign by adding various missions that we didn't see coming.  Well, hang onto your hats, boys and girls, because he's coming back with a vengeance.

While there is no crew in this years NBA2K12 title, players have already found an exploit to max out all of their stats, money and make modifications in their height and weight. According to Se7ensins forum, a forum notorious for hacking and modifications, a few forums members have created a command-line tool and a GUI version that allows players to edit their stats easily and then import their My Player back into the game.

A few companies are introducing a new practice with some of their releases, in the hopes of introducing some new fans to games that helped generate interest in a franchise to begin with.  Case in point -- when Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Bioshock Infinite come out for the PlayStation 3, they'll come packed in with bonuses that players can enjoy right on the disc -- the original games that started them all.

It's not often you see a company reward its attendees when they come to their panel, aside from telling some great stories and entertaining them, of course.  We're talking PHYSICAL rewards.  But Gearbox Software actually turned a few heads at its panel, not only bringing 140 pizzas to feed its happy, hungry attendees, but giving them an unexpected bonus -- its upcoming 2K Games release Borderlands 2.

If anything is inevitable in the video game industry, it's that if a video game is successful, a sequel -- or maybe more -- will follow.  This has been proven time and time again, and this year alone will bring a series of sequels to the forefront, including Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War 3 and more.  Now rumors are circling that 2K Games' open world shooter Borderlands will be getting a sequel sometime next year.  To which we say, "Um, surprise?  We knew this already."

This year was looking pretty good for comic book game releases, particularly with Batman: Arkham City closing in on its October 18th premiere.  But the pressure of how good that game will be is probably leaving an effect on some publishers, most notably 2K Games.  The company has announced that one of their big projects for the Halloween season, The Darkness II, has been pushed to February 2012.
