Hot on the heels of their highly anticipated reunion, GRAMMY award-winning rockers Soundgarden and Activision Publishing Inc.’s Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will come together this September in a groundbreaking collaboration that marks the first time a new music album will be simultaneously released and bundled with a videogame.  All one million North American Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock launch units will contain Telephantasm, a 12-song career-spanning album, and will be exclusively available with the game for one week, prior to the album’s retail release.  

When the party starts this October, virtual DJs and MCs throughout the universe will fire up two turntable controllers and a microphone and mix it up with Tiësto – one of electronic music’s defining artists, DJ’s and producers – in DJ Hero 2.  Having worked with the likes of Muse, Justin Timberlake, Jónsi from Sigur Rós, Flo Rida, Sean Kingston and Three 6 Mafia, performed for billions of fans at the opening ceremonies of the Athens Olympics and headlined the Coachella and Bonnaroo music festivals among others, Tiësto has earned his status as the world’s hottest DJ.  The Grammy Nominee will be spinning for a new audience as he takes to the virtual ones and twos, delivering a pair of pulse-pounding exclusive mixes and joining the ever-growing roster of playable characters, including Deadmau5, David Guetta, DJ Qbert and others.

SAN DIEGO, California – (REUTERS) For every big Hollywood blockbuster like Marvel Entertainment’s “Thor” and Universal Pictures’ “Scott Pilgrim vs the World” debuting at the annual Comic Con Convention in San Diego this week, there’s a video game counterpart. And in many cases, comic book games are launching without any Hollywood tie-ins.

The Call of Duty Endowment (CODE) will donate $25,000 to Swords to Plowshares to help fund their employment training programs and career placement services, which provide assistance to recently returning veterans in the San Francisco Bay and Oakland areas.  Swords to Plowshares is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides counseling, case management, employment training, and placement assistance to thousands of veterans annually in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Activision has a new shooter hitting Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC that just hit store shelves. The team at Raven Software has been working on Singularity, a shooter with a time-traveling twist that takes players from a near future back to the 1950s. The action is set on a Russian island called Katorga-12, where the Soviets discovered a strange new element, E-99, that they believed could end the Cold War once and for all. Long story short, the experiment is rushed and botched and the Russians rip a hole through time and space with horrible results.
