The game went on to sell a total of more than 1.5 million copies in its first 48 hours, setting the record for fastest-selling strategy game of all time.

Activision Publishing, Inc. and Marvel Entertainment confirmed that Neil Patrick Harris will reprise his role as Spider-Man in Activision’s upcoming Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, which is currently being showcased at San Diego Comic-Con.  In the game, players traverse through four unique worlds from Spider-Man lore and take on the role of four distinctly different Spider-Men – Amazing, Ultimate, Noir and 2099 – which will be brought to life by Neil Patrick Harris along with Josh Keaton, Christopher Daniel Barnes and Dan Gilvezan, respectively.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse raked in $161 million in its first five days in the U.S., earning the seventh-best five-day opening in history behind the Twilight Saga: New Moon’s $164.7 million haul. Eclipse took in almost as much over the holiday weekend as it did in its opening day. The film earned an additional $100 million overseas, bringing its early total to $261 million.

The Call of Duty Endowment (CODE) will donate $25,000 to Swords to Plowshares to help fund their employment training programs and career placement services, which provide assistance to recently returning veterans in the San Francisco Bay and Oakland areas.  Swords to Plowshares is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides counseling, case management, employment training, and placement assistance to thousands of veterans annually in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Activision has a new shooter hitting Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC that just hit store shelves. The team at Raven Software has been working on Singularity, a shooter with a time-traveling twist that takes players from a near future back to the 1950s. The action is set on a Russian island called Katorga-12, where the Soviets discovered a strange new element, E-99, that they believed could end the Cold War once and for all. Long story short, the experiment is rushed and botched and the Russians rip a hole through time and space with horrible results.

With Michael Bay currently filming Transformers 3, fans don’t have to wait for a new adventure thanks to Activision. High Moon Studios last worked Hollywood magic with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 by introducing Jason Bourne to gamers with The Bourne Conspiracy. Now the developer is working on another blockbuster film franchise. But rather than turning a book-to-film franchise into a game, High Moon Studios is working with Hasbro to add a new chapter to the Transformers story.

Activision impressed E3 2010 attendees last week with a massive concert at the Staples Center featuring Eminem, Usher and Sound Garden. Then followed that up with a great line-up of game demos including Call of Duty: Black Ops, DJ Hero 2, GoldenEye 007, and a new Spider-Man and Guitar Hero game. Now Activision has launched a new chapter in Transformers, serving a summer movie experience sans the movie.
