Disney Interactive Studios is crossing movie universes once again, but this isn’t the next Kingdom Hearts game. Disney Universe, a fast-paced multiplayer action adventure game, is currently in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PC/Mac. Players will experience non-stop action through a mix-up of worlds inspired by both animated and live action films from Disney, including titles from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. Players will suit-up as iconic Disney and Disney•Pixar characters and embark on adventures to power up their hero, battle powerful adversaries and master challenging puzzles to save the universe. Sure to be one of the big games of E3 2011 in Los Angeles, Disney Universe will ship this fall across platforms.

Johnny Depp in 3D helped Walt Disney Studios earn the top ranking at the box office this weekend. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides brought in over $90.1 million at 4,155 locations. The fourth film in the franchise saw nearly half of its box office booty come from more expensive 3D screenings. Pirates opened at a record 2,747 3D-enabled locations. In the Hollywood licensing department, it’s better late than never. Stern Pinball has just released a TRON: Legacy pinball machine based on Walt Disney Studios’ last December’s hit movie, which is now available on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD. Stern worked on the pinball machine in collaboration with Disney Consumer Products to bring the futuristic look and feel of the video game movie home. DISNEYLAND -- In what promises to be the 3D event of the season, Disney and XPAND 3D gave a lucky group of fans a first look at one of the summer’s biggest blockbusters. The companies collaborated to show the World Premiere of Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at Disneyland. The stars all came out for the big event, including Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane, as well as Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall. The black carpet event, which cost $1,000 per ticket, raised money for the Boys & Girls Club of America in eye-popping active 3D by way of XPAND 3D’s new Infinity Large Screen System. Just in time for the new movie, gamers have LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean games across all platforms to play with.

Production is underway in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated 3D movie Marvel’s The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon (Serenity) from a screenplay by Whedon.  The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, Marvel’s The Avengers is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009. With Sega releasing video games based on most of the Marvel superheroes, including Thor and Captain America this summer, don’t be surprised to be the game giant release a video game expansion of this new movie next summer. The only catch is that Disney also owns a game studio, so they could develop a game internally.

Just as the NBA Playoffs kick into high gear, NBA Digital and Playdom have launched NBA Dynasty, a new social game on Facebook that allows NBA fans to create and manage their ultimate dream team by choosing from more than 9,000 player seasons from 1946 to present. Throughout the year, NBA Dynasty will provide fans with the opportunity to compete in games against NBA stars, NBA championship teams, and head-to-head with their friends for the all-time best record. Disney Interactive Studios is developing Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension is for Wii, Nintendo DS and PlayStation 3. Based on the #1 animated TV series among Tweens 9-14 for the past three years, “Phineas and Ferb,” the new video game is inspired by the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie. Fans can play as their favorite characters including Phineas, Ferb and Agent P as they journey through new dimensions filled with action-packed platforming, in a quest to battle the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz. The game and movie will be available this summer.

After making nearly $400 million at the global box office, The Walt Disney Studios has brought both Steven Lisberger’s original TRON and Joe Krasinski’s 3D sequel home on Blu-ray and DVD. Gamers, who also have two TRON video games from Disney Interactive Studios to play with, will be able to see Jeff Bridges young and old in both films as he plays Kevin Flynn and Clu. Disney has also releasing a new Daft Punk album, TRON: Legacy RECONFIGURED.
