Last, but certainly not least, in my early look at this year's E3 are all of the third party games that we could be seeing on the floor. While there may be people not necessarily looking for a new console or new handheld device, there are plenty of people looking for the next big game to come out either at the end of this year or sometime next year. It certainly looks like there will be a lot to look forward to, so let's get an idea of what we may be seeing at E3.

Back in the early 90s, fighting games saw an emergence with the release of Street Fighter II in arcades and on home consoles. At first, there was no contest to rival its success until Ed Boon and John Tobias came out with a little game called Mortal Kombat. What separated this from any other fighting game was it's blood and gore, which ultimately led to the creation of a mature-rated game in the ESRB. For almost 20 years, Mortal Kombat has changed its formula around little by little, but the latest entry in the series goes back to its roots to deliver an experience that may be the best one yet for the franchise.

Hal Jordan and I have something in common. Both of our rings glow green--while his turns him into The Green Lantern, mine is a symbolic representation of 200,000 green ones stuffed into the pockets of a liberal arts education system. And like Hal Jordan I may turn into the evil villan Parallax and refuse to answer the phone when my college comes 'acallin asking for donations. Mwahahah.

FATALITY. Oh, the bloody, bloody memories. I recall playing Mortal Kombat 2 in the Giant Supermarket entrance way back in the mid 90s. Sure, I wasn't supposed to be playing it,  but what kid in their right mind could pass up the opportunity to use characters such as Scorpion, Sub Zero and Johnny Cage? Not this kid. Plus, the ESRB wasn't really all in that much in effect back then--anyone remember the Sega self imposed Video Game Rating Council? Pretty sure MK2 was MA-17 according to their standards. Then again, a side-scrolling beat-em up featuring Spider-Man and Venom, Maximum Carnage, was MA-13.
