“Dexter” composer Daniel Licht scored Arkane Studios’ award-winning video game Dishonored. The first-person perspective action game from Bethesda Softworks also features the voice acting of Hollywood talent like Susan Sarandon, Brad Dourif, Carrie Fisher and Chloe Grace Moretz. The October 9 release for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will offer Licht fans a double feature, of sorts, as the new season of Showtime’s “Dexter” will also be on TV.

Gearbox Studios surprised the world in 2009 with its critically acclaimed blockbuster for 2K Games, Borderlands. The original game looked unlike any previous Gearbox title and distinguished itself as an Unreal Engine 3 title with its unique cel-shaded 3D visuals. Now the development studio is pushing Epic Games Unreal technology even further with an ambitious sequel.

After its success with TRON: Revolution and TRON: Uprising, Walt Disney Studios is exploring a brand new video game world. Wreck-It Ralph, hitting theatres November 2, tells the story of an arcade game bad guy who embarks on a quest to prove he’s really a good guy. The 3D computer-generated movie sends audiences on a journey through wildly diverse arcade-game worlds, including the ‘80s-era, 8-bit video-game world of Fix-It Felix, Jr., the ultra-modern first-person shooter game Hero’s Duty and the candy-coated cart-racing game Sugar Rush. Helping to differentiate these worlds from one another are unique cinematography, animation, effects and music.

With AMC’s The Walking Dead debuting in October and two games coming out around that franchise, it’s only natural that a big screen zombie sequel would beat out a lost fish. Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth installment in the Resident Evil franchise starring Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez and Boris Kodjoe, earned $21.1 million at 3,012 locations. The R-rated movie from Sony Pictures Screen Gems and Constantin Films continues the strong opening track record of the video game franchise. Directed by Paul Anderson, this movie bows before Resident Evil 6 from Capcom and Resident Evil: Damnation on Blu-ray and DVD. Disney/Pixar Finding Nemo came in second with $17. Million.

Fans around the world continue to get a kick out of soccer, including in the U.S. Nearly 2 million people in 73 countries around the world downloaded and played FIFA Soccer 13 in the three days after the demo launched on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. That’s a 29 percent increase compared to the first three days after the FIFA Soccer 12 demo last year. Two weeks from launch, fans around the world have pre-ordered over 875,000 copies of FIFA Soccer 13 -- up 37 percent year over year in Europe and a 62 percent increase year over year in North America.

The game industry is giving back to American troops who have dedicated their lives to serve and protect. Parties organized by gamers across the country this fall will raise funds to send video games and consoles to U.S. troops deployed to Afghanistan. The events, part of Operation Supply Drop’s national Veterans Day "8-Bit Salute to Veterans," will be held in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York City on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012. Gamers everywhere are invited to participate.

In all of my gaming years, I’ve never enjoyed a hearty chuckle while holding back the urge to throw my keyboard at the wall in frustration. That is until Bust-N-Rush, the first title by Techtonic Games, was released. Currently only available for Windows, Bust-N-Rush is a straightforward ‘runner’ game, similar to another famous indie game Audiosurf. You play as a juggernaut-like hero named Kovo who was forced out of retirement early by the untimely destruction of his plastic flamingo lawn ornament named Paco. With a shake of his mighty fist, Kovo sets out to exact revenge on Paco’s killer, the monstrous Satellite of Wub.
