Marvel’s The Avengers crossed the $1 billion threshold at the global box office on Mother’s Day May 13, its 19th day in release, The Walt Disney Studios movie has become the first official summer blockbuster. This is the first Marvel Studios film and the fifth Walt Disney Studios release to reach this important milestone. Director Joss Whedon talks about the movie in the exclusive video interview below.

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises like Counter-Strike,Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress and leading technologies like Steam and Source, is moving The International Dota 2 Championships 2012 to its home town of Seattle. The International was launched last year in Cologne, Germany during Gamescom with 16 of the most elite Dota teams competing in a group stage, double elimination playoff format for a grand prize of $1 million.

Actor Tom Hiddleston has been good for Marvel, even though he plays the bad guy Loki in Thor: God of Thunder and Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. Hiddleston helped propel Thor to record box office last summer and The Avengers is expected to top $500 million globally this summer for Disney. Hiddleston talks about the super villain, as well as his gaming background, in this exclusive video interview below.

Thanks to Joss Whedon, Disney will soon forget the epic flop known as John Carter. The director already has an international hit on his hands. Marvel’s The Avengers has made over $280 million overseas already – earning more than Iron Man, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger made during their entire theatrical runs. American moviegoers continue to find 3D movies exciting, according to a study released today by the International 3D Society. In a poll conducted by the organization, 52% of those surveyed had seen at least one 3D movie in the last three years. This comes on the heels of RealD announcing that 20,000 theatres and 725 million people have watched a 3D movie.

If you look at it a certain way, Radical Entertainment’s Prototype is sort of an evolution from what they were trying to do with The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.  You’ve got a character that can destroy pretty much everything with superhuman powers, run up buildings and let loose with an uncontrollable sense of rage.  That said, the story was quite interesting, and the game did pretty well on its own merits.  Fast forward to two years later to the release of Prototype 2, and though some elements will feel familiar, there are a number of improvements that really make this feel like a huge step forward for the team.  You know, what a sequel needs to be.

In preparation for The Dark Knight Rises summer movie blockbuster, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment are adding new content to the critically acclaimed bestseller Batman: Arkham City with a Game of the Year Edition.  The expanded version of the award-winning blockbuster videogame developed by Rocksteady Studios is ship in North America on May 29 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The developer talks about the game in the exclusive video below.

Mario has some new games heading to Nintendo 3DS and Kirby is celebrating his 20th birthday. Nintendo will launch New Super Mario Bros. 2, a new side-scrolling Mario adventure for Nintendo 3DS, this summer. Later in the year, Nintendo will mark the 20th anniversary of the Kirby game series with a special compilation game disc for the Wii system. Other content on the way includes a system update for Nintendo 3DS, re-runs of the popular Kid Icarus anime videos as well as the May 20 launch of Mario Tennis Open.

A while back, 2K Games had announced XCOM, a huge next-generation take on the long-running series, letting you battle aliens in a very detailed world.  Unfortunately, that game has since gone through an unforeseen delay, taking its release into 2013.  But don’t worry, fans, 2K still has you covered, thanks to a little help from Firaxis Games.  It’s taking things back to the traditional XCOM method with Enemy Unknown, a game that should shake up the strategic action scene when it arrives later this year for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Even though there are hundreds of entries into the genre, the market has recently become static due to the lack of new ideas brought to the table. What’s the solution? Ravaged!

The LightBox Interactive team has been creating a massive world for gamers to explore as protagonist Emmett Graves.
