The game went on to sell a total of more than 1.5 million copies in its first 48 hours, setting the record for fastest-selling strategy game of all time.

According to The NPD Group, PC games in the U.S. took a huge hit at retail in 2009. PC games accounted for just $538 million last year, which was down 23 percent from 2008. In contrast, console game sales in 2009 were only down eight percent. One caveat, these sales do not include digital download revenue from services like Steam.com, BigDownLoad.com and IGN.com.
