Square Enix is bringing key games from its E3 lineup to San Diego Comic-Con, set to take place July 21-24. The Japanese game giant will also host two panels focusing on Dead Island and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, both of which will be playable at on the convention floor at booth 3829. U.S. consumers purchased an estimated 1.75 million Blu-ray Disc 3D (BD3D) discs at retail during the format's first 12 months on the market, and brought home another 1.7 million units as part of hardware/software bundling deals, according to the new IHS Screen Digest report entitled “Life in 3D: BD3D's First Year of Sales,” from information and analysis provider IHS. These sales were spurred, in part, thanks to the free PlayStation 3 upgrade that turns any PS3 into a Blu-ray 3D player. The lower cost of 3D TVs from companies like Vizio is also helping sales.

The familiar scene of video game and consumer electronics journalists and assorted geeks walking the halls of CEA's annual CES show alongside porn stars is now a thing of the past. CES 2012 will take place January 10-13, while the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE), AVN Novelty Expo (ANE) and the AVN Awards will now be a week later January 18–21 and move to a new locale at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The International CES announced that 31,677 industry professionals from outside the U.S. attended the 2011 International CES January 6-9, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Up 30 percent from last year, international attendance at the 2011 CES set a new record for the show’s 45 year history.  An independent audit, performed by Veris Consulting LLC, confirms CES’ status as the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow and North America’s largest annual tradeshow of any kind. Overall, the 2011 International CES welcomed 149,529 technology attendees during its four day run.

As consumer confusion continues in the 3D TV market, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has stepped in. The CEA is the nation’s largest technology trade association, representing more than 2,000 technology manufacturers, retailers, service providers and installers and is best known for hosting events like CES 2011. The organization is seeking proposals for standardizing 3D active eyewear that uses an infrared (IR) synchronized interface from consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers. The organization has launched the 3D Technologies Working Group to work through submissions. More consumers, especially gamers, are migrating to 3D with Sony PlayStation 3 and NVIDIA pushing active 3D.

Sony Computer Entertainment America is introducing online storage for game saves exclusively to PlayStation Plus subscribers, allowing gamers to back up their save data to the cloud.  Online storage for game saves will be available with system software update (v3.60) for PlayStation 3 (PS3), coming on March 10, 2011 and will be automatically enabled for PlayStation Plus subscribers once users install the update.

A new report from Research and Markets finds that television manufacturers are viewing 3D developments as the next big thing for the 3D TV industry, and expect it to boost sales and interest as much as color TVs did to black and white entertainment decades ago. The 3D TV market size is expected to grow to more than $100 billion by the end of 2014 as more big games from companies like Sony Computer Entertainment, including MLB 11: The Show, Killzone 3 and Motorstorm Apocalypse hit the gaming space. Hollywood is also increasing the number of Blu-ray 3Ds based on big movies like Disney’s Alice in Wonderland 3D, Sony Pictures’ Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D and Weinstein’s Piranha 3D. Sony Computer Entertainment America has introduced PlayStation Home’s Total Game Integration with the soon-to-be-released stereo 3d Killzone 3, providing users with unique opportunities to extend the Killzone 3 experience. Available now, the Killzone 3 Total Game Integration kicked off with the Helghast invading and destroying the PlayStation Home Central Plaza, leaving it as the last ISA stronghold.  Once in PlayStation Home, users will be able to aid in the ISA evacuation of Helghan by launching into a series of games across three different levels to gain accessories for their PlayStation Home avatar. Completion of all three levels will reward players with Unlock Points, which can be redeemed for new weapons and abilities in Guerilla Games' Killzone 3 multiplayer.
