One of the most highly-acclaimed first person shooters of 2011 is getting a facelift. EA and Crytek have released the Crysis 2 Ultra Upgrade, giving PC gamers full DirectX11 support. Enhancing the Crysis 2 gaming experience on PC, the Crysis 2 Ultra Upgrade delivers higher quality visuals and features including tessellation, water rendering improvements, high quality HDR motion blur, and many other special effects and higher quality texture formats with the optional high res texture pack. One of the big games of 2011 has delivered blockbuster sales. While there was a lot of hype leading up to the launches of Electronic Arts games like Bulletstorm, Dragon Age 2, and Dead Space 2, Crysis 2 has crushed all of those titles in the global sales game. Crytek’s 3D sequel sold approximately 700,000 copies worldwide in its first week at retail. The Xbox 360 version of the game dominated in sales, while the PC version of the game fizzled. Electronic Arts and developer Crytek have teamed up with legendary Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer to create part of the dramatic score for the critically acclaimed first-person shooter Crysis 2, which is one of the big games of 2011. Recognized worldwide for his work on blockbuster films like Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning Inception and The Dark Knight, Zimmer and his team featuring Lorne Balfe worked with the existing composers Borislav Slavov and Tilman Sillescu to create the intense and dramatic score for Crysis 2 which sets the tone for the game’s backdrop of a devastated New York City in 2023. Crytek talks about the new 3D game in this exclusive video interview.

Boston -- With one of the big games of 2011 set to launch on March 22 in 3D across PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Electronic Arts had Crysis 2 on hand at PAX East 2011. Running in 3D with NVIDIA technology, the game from German developer Crytek was one of the top titles at the show. While gamers were able to download the multiplayer demo for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 early, Boston attendees got 3D hands-on with the new shooter. LAS VEGAS -- Ramping up its efforts to drive consumer adoption of 3D on mobile devices, 3D technology company Master Image is showcasing its glasses-free 3D displays for smart phones and tablets in Las Vegas this week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2011). The company is showing off autostereoscopic technology similar to what Nintendo is using in its Nintendo 3DS portable gaming device.

IllFonic has licensed CryENGINE 3 from Crytek for Nexuiz, the upcoming Xbox Live arcade and PlayStation Network futuristic arena first-person shooter. The game, which ships this winter, is the first to utilize the technology behind Crtek’s Crysis 2. CryENGINE 3 has allowed the IllFonic development team to achieve their vision for Nexuiz that will push the limits of what gamers can expect from an AAA digital downloadable title.

LOS ANGELES -- In tandem with E3 2010, where Sony and Nintendo stole the show with new PlayStation 3 3D games and a robust line-up of Nintendo 3DS stereoscopic games, new research shows that consumers are game for 3D. According to Interpret’s new report, “3D State of Union: Are Consumers Ready?” marketing campaigns of TV manufacturers and product demos at retail have vetted consumer interest in 3D technologies-5% of heads of households stated that they are “definitely interested” in purchasing a 3D TV in the next 12 months, and another 8% are “probably interested.”

LOS ANGELES – At E3 2010, 3D was all the rage. Sony and Nintendo are pushing 3D in two new directions and focusing on the mainstream consumer. The Nintendo 3DS will introduce American and European consumers to auto stereoscopic 3D (Japanese cell phones already feature this glasses-free technology) with a full slate of games. Sony’s offering a free stereoscopic 3D upgrade to its 35 million PlayStation 3s this month, turning every console into a 3D movie and gaming machine. With those giants making the jump to 3D, just about every game maker is developing titles to support this technology.

LOS ANGELES -- With Sony showcasing 3D games at E3 2010, Crysis 2 going 3D across PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, and Nintendo 3DS making its debut, a new report finds gamers are ready for this new experience. Interest in 3D gaming is strongest among early adopters and gaming enthusiasts, but a new study from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) shows that interest in 3D gaming extends to the casual video game player as well. The 3D Gaming: Entertainment’s Next Dimension study of online U.S. adults also found that more consumer demonstrations and education are needed before adoption can take off.
