Many experts had predicted that Jerry Bruckheimer -- the man who made a mint off a theme park ride -- and Walt Disney Pictures could turn a hit videogame franchise into a Hollywood blockbuster. But the 3D Shrek Forever After ended up blowing away both Sex and the City 2 and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time at the box office in its second weekend. Even worse, the videogame adaptation, which game creator Jordan Mechner adapted for the big screen, lost out to Sex and the City 2 -- a movie that was even more poorly reviewed by critics and audiences.

The new summer blockbuster is based on Jordan Mechner’s videogame franchise. Arterton’s character, Tamina, was crafted for the movie, similar to Io, who was one of the few original characters in the new Clash.
