With Killzone 3, Guerrilla Games has created a triumphant first-person shooting experience, one that still holds up even four months after the game's release.  Its awesome attention to detail, superb gameplay (especially with the jet pack flying mechanics) and wanton destruction are unmatched by any other PS3 shooter, and the ability to take on both bots and other players in a varied multiplayer environment boosts the replay value significantly.  Which leads us to wonder...why didn't the game sell better?

PlayStation Network and Qriocity have been down since April 20. Sony announced just last week most systems would resume last week. But that has now been delayed with no new timetable announced. Sony is also under government scrutiny for the security breach, which allowed hackers to gain access to an estimated 77 million users’ data. Names, addresses, passwords and possibly credit card information was stolen. On top of PlayStation Network and Qriocity breaches, Sony Online Entertainment was also breached. An additional 24.6 million users may have been affected by that incident. The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade held a session focused on Sony and data theft last week.

Yesterday, we took a look at Microsoft and what they will have in store for us at this year's E3. From what it looks like, this year will focus on software for the XBox 360, as well as possible details on a new console. It's a bit of a different story for Sony. Sony is giving another try at handheld gaming with the NGP, a console that they claim brings the experience of the PS3 on the go. They have already shown off the console this year, but at E3 Sony will most likely release all of the specs of the system, as well as set a date for release and pricing of the system. Will the NGP be able to hold a candle to the 3DS?

Additionally, Sony announced that the PlayStation Move ecosystem, including the PlayStation Eye camera, PlayStation Move navigation controller, and PlayStation Move compatible software, continues to see strong momentum at retail as more gamers experience the precision motion control that only PlayStation can deliver.

AMSTERDAM, Holland -- It’s been two years since Guerrilla Games unleashed its Killzone universe on the PlayStation 3, offering what studio managing director Hermen Hulst described as the game’s “D-Day Invasion” to shooter fans. For the third console game in the franchise (we didn’t forget about Killzone: Liberation for PSP), Hulst and his team of 140 in Amsterdam focused on perfecting both the single-player and multiplayer gameplay experience, introducing stereoscopic 3D to the franchise, and focusing on a more character-driven, action-packed storyline. A few days before moving into new offices down the street from the five-story historic building that the team has called home for so many years, Hulst talked about the new game, the future of the studio, and offered his thoughts on new technologies like the NGP and mobile gaming in this exclusive interview.

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – Guerrilla Games has spent the past two years creating the very first stereoscopic 3D game for PlayStation 3 with Killzone 3. The studio, which at one point had a team of 200 people developing the sequel, worked closely with Sony Computer Entertainment’s Liverpool team to push the 3D experience. The team also worked closely to develop a brand new PlayStation Move gun peripheral for the 3D shooter, which adds accuracy to the shooter action. And the studio’s location in Amsterdam didn’t prevent the game maker from tapping into Hollywood talent – both in front of the camera and behind it – to bring the 3D cinematics to life and borrow from the latest 3D filmmaking techniques. Hermen Hulst, managing director at Guerrilla Games, talks about the new shooter and what’s next for the franchise in this exclusive interview.

A new report from Research and Markets finds that television manufacturers are viewing 3D developments as the next big thing for the 3D TV industry, and expect it to boost sales and interest as much as color TVs did to black and white entertainment decades ago. The 3D TV market size is expected to grow to more than $100 billion by the end of 2014 as more big games from companies like Sony Computer Entertainment, including MLB 11: The Show, Killzone 3 and Motorstorm Apocalypse hit the gaming space. Hollywood is also increasing the number of Blu-ray 3Ds based on big movies like Disney’s Alice in Wonderland 3D, Sony Pictures’ Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D and Weinstein’s Piranha 3D. And CES 2011 once again focused on 3D TVs like the 92-inch Mitsubishi in the video below.

LOS ANGELES -- In tandem with E3 2010, where Sony and Nintendo stole the show with new PlayStation 3 3D games and a robust line-up of Nintendo 3DS stereoscopic games, new research shows that consumers are game for 3D. According to Interpret’s new report, “3D State of Union: Are Consumers Ready?” marketing campaigns of TV manufacturers and product demos at retail have vetted consumer interest in 3D technologies-5% of heads of households stated that they are “definitely interested” in purchasing a 3D TV in the next 12 months, and another 8% are “probably interested.”

LOS ANGELES – At E3 2010, 3D was all the rage. Sony and Nintendo are pushing 3D in two new directions and focusing on the mainstream consumer. The Nintendo 3DS will introduce American and European consumers to auto stereoscopic 3D (Japanese cell phones already feature this glasses-free technology) with a full slate of games. Sony’s offering a free stereoscopic 3D upgrade to its 35 million PlayStation 3s this month, turning every console into a 3D movie and gaming machine. With those giants making the jump to 3D, just about every game maker is developing titles to support this technology.
