The PSAs, which feature the players explaining the ESRB rating system and encouraging parents to use it when buying games for their families, will soon begin running on television and radio stations throughout northern California as well as at Giants home games this season.

Taking full advantage of Kinect for Xbox 360, Steel Battalion Heavy Armor is a first-person perspective action game that will put players in the cockpit of futuristic Vertical Tanks (VTs) starting June 19. Set in 2082, the game depicts a world devoid of semiconductors, where war is waged with rudimentary weapons as new superpowers struggle for dominance. In a twist of fate, the U.S. army has been forced to begin major landing operations on what was once its own soil. Playing as pilot Lt. Powers, players control one a VT as he embarks on a mission that will see the action shift from North America to battlefields and war-torn streets across the globe. The multiplayer mode of the game made its debut at Captivate 2012.  Capcom’s Antoine Molant was on hand to discuss this sequel in this exclusive interview.

First introduced at a Microsoft event in Tokyo a couple of years back, Crimson Dragon has been hidden in secrecy for some time, with Yukio Futatsuki, the creator of Sega’s Panzer Dragoon series, and his team toiling away on its spiritual successor for Xbox Live Arcade.  But recently, Microsoft provided us a hands-on opportunity with the upcoming release, giving us the ability to fly around with a dragon using body motions.  And you know what?  It’s not half bad.

We’re all for trying something new in a long-running series, but the problem is when an idea is introduced that doesn’t pan out like the development team expected it to.  Sadly, this is looking like the case for Lionhead Studios’ Fable.  After three entertaining adventure outings, the series is drastically moving into Kinect territory later this year with Fable: The Journey, which, honestly, doesn’t look so hot right now.  To make matters worse, things don’t really fare much better with Lionhead’s recent XBLA release, Fable Heroes.

Capcom connected with gamers back on the original Xbox with Steel Battalion, a game best known for its massive controller filled with buttons and levers to control the in-game Mechs. Thanks to Kinect, the newest game in the franchise (which is not a direct sequel to the Xbox game), eliminates any new controllers while making the experience more immersive. Capcom’s Antoine Molant details the new game at Captivate 2012 in this exclusive video interview below.

When you create a game for a motion-sensitive device, you have to keep things not only interesting, but fresh.  Stick with the same ideal too long and mundane feelings set in, leaving the player wondering why they’re still playing an hour into the game.  Some games have avoided these pratfalls, including Child of Eden and, most recently, Star Wars Kinect.  However, Diabolical Pitch, sadly, doesn’t avoid this rut.

04.06.12

With its release, fans are divided over Star War Kinect.  And it’s easy to see why.  The product offers a lot that ties in with the Star Wars universe, but goes so far off the deep end with certain sections, it could easily be considered one of the most hated things since, well, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.  But keep something in mind when you play it.  Microsoft didn’t build it for the hardcore fans who know within their hearts that Han Solo shot first.  They built it for the casual audience and the kids who would have fun for hours on end waving their arms to swing a lightsaber and steer a podracer.  And in that sense, Star Wars Kinect does what’s promised.

With Kinect 2.0 rumored to launch with Xbox Next in 2014, Microsoft isn’t resting on its laurels when it comes to updating the motion-sensor technology behind games like Kinect Disneyland, Dance Central 2 and the upcoming Star Wars Kinect. Craig Eisler, General Manager of Kinect for Windows at Microsoft, recently discussed what’s coming out for Xbox 360 as well as PC gamers.

03.29.12

Even though not every Kinect game is what I’d call “user friendly”, I do have to admit that Microsoft has done a great job reaching out to make games that are accessible for all ages.  Kinect Star Wars arrives next week, bringing plenty of racing action and Jedi-powered action with it; and Disneyland Kinect Adventures turned out to be much better than I gave it credit for, and a decent alternative to visiting the real park.  Sandwiched between the two is Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure, a game that features mini-games based on some of the team’s best films.  While slightly flimsier than what Disneyland had to offer, I can’t think of a kid who wouldn’t enjoy this effort.

Electronic Arts is being rewarded for sticking with Tiger Woods through thick and thin. In a perfect stroke of marketing, Woods won his first PGA TOUR event since his public divorce just before EA Sports was shipping Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13:The Masters Collector’s Edition to retailers around the world. His victory at Bay Hill has made Tiger relevant once again in the golf world and helped ratings surge for broadcasters. Woods also recently showed his sense of humor in the “Duel of the Masters” viral video with Shaquille O’Neal. Check out the making of that video below.

Dragon’s Lair is one of those games that could be considered an immortal classic.  It got its start way back in 1983, when laser disc technology was king (we’re talking the big flipper discs, not the Blu-Rays as you know them now) and Don Bluth’s animation shined down on arcades, ushering in an interesting new technology that took the gaming scene by storm.  Now, almost 30 years later, the game lives on through Digital Leisure’s re-releases, and the company has confirmed that it’s now coming to Xbox Live Arcade – with a twist.

With Game Developers Conference kicking off this week, many game companies are making announcements regarding new projects.  Lionhead Studios, headed up by Peter Molyneux, is no exception.  And while the company is expected to talk about its new Fable project for Kinect, it’s also ready to ramp up Fable Heroes, a game that was unveiled on the Xbox Live Marketplace this week.  But don’t go expecting just an ordinary Fable adventure.

Steel Battalion was a rather quirky game for its time.  Unlike any other?  Sure.  But it also came with the most realistic vehicle play you could imagine, thanks to a deluxe sized controller that featured literally dozens of functions, ranging from various settings to an eject button, when things got too hot under the collar.  It was definitely an acquired taste, especially with its $200 price tag.  But Capcom is ready to bring this series back for a whole new audience, as it’s doing away with the controller in favor of Kinect-supported controls.  Will that be enough?

02.07.12

Kinect Star Wars’ road to release has been a bumpy one.  The project was first hinted at a while back, featuring a wild Jedi battling segment and the promise of full interaction with George Lucas’ universe.  Since that time, we’ve seen bits and pieces of it, mainly a cool podracing segment that features full 3D support.  But what about the rest of the game?  Relax, Force users, you won’t have to wait long for it, as it now has an official release date – as well as a…dance-off?

02.04.12

Apparently some of the marketing folks behind some of these Kinect games have it all wrong.  They’re trying to implement motion controls in all the right ways, but as a result, they’re sacrificing the main ingredient that’s supposed to be selling these products in the first place – fun.  Some of these games simply aren’t that fun.  Find a person who made the unfortunate mistake of picking up a retail copy of Hole In the Wall and ask them if they’re having fun trying to stand in place of fast-moving silhouettes.

01.29.12

Well over a year after its release on the market, the Kinect motion device is really growing into its own for Xbox 360 users, not only with a few family-related efforts (Kinect Sports, Dance Central) but also a decent amount of games dedicated to the "hardcore" crowd (Child of Eden, Rise of Nightmares).  But there's not too much of a market for downloadable Kinect games as of yet, though Fruit Ninja Kinect is doing fairly well.  Maybe that'll change once people see how good the haunted house adventure game Haunt is.  Maybe.
