LAS VEGAS -- While the big guys were busy one upping each other in the 4K camera wars, Blackmagic Design, a company known more for accessories and convertors, came out with what could be a ground breaking new camera. Seeing an untapped market in the professional camera space, Blackmagic introduced its new 2.5K resolution Cinema Camera. Priced at $2,995, the Cinema Camera captures what Blackmagic is calling "film quality video" on its 2.5K sensor and outputs it to CinemaDNG RAW, ProRes and DNxHD file formats.

LAS VEGAS – Dragon Ball Z has been released on every game console since Nintendo entered the game industry. LAS VEGAS – Namco Bandai and Paramount Pictures have released a new trailer and concept art from Digital Extremes’ Star Trek game. The award-winning game casts players for the first time ever as Kirk and Spock in an original co-op experience. Set in the new canon of director and producer J.J. LAS VEGAS -- The NAB Show is in full gear and one of the big announcements here at the show is the new Canon Cinema EOS 4K cameras, the EOS 1D C and the EOS C500. The EOS 1D C in particular tries to continue Canon's dominance in HDSLR filmmaking, a category it kickstarted back in 2008 with its revolutionary EOS 5D Mark II camera. The EOS 1D C, a modified, video-centric version of its EOS 1D X top of the line SLR, adds 4K (4096 x 3072) resolution 24p frames per second video capture to its repertoire while offering one of the industry's best low light sensitivity sensors that can shoot up to an unheard of 25,400 ISO in video more. And who else to show off the camera and what it can do but award winning cinematographer Shane Hurlbut whose been at the forefront of the HDSLR filmmaking revolution and actually shot a majority of a major motion picture, Act of Valor, with 5D Mark II cameras. Hurlbut's new short film The Ticket was screened at Canon's NAB exclusive screening to show off what can be done with the new EOS 1D X. We caught up with Mr. Hurlbut to get his thoughts and also got a hands-on first look at the new camera.

LAS VEGAS -- As the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Show officially starts Monday in Las Vegas, the major camera manufacturers have already kicked the show into full gear and this NAB is all about 4K (4096 x 3072). 4K is the next high definition standard for displaying HD content with a display resolution that is four times higher resolution than 1080p (1920 x 1080). At their respective press conferences today, Canon demoed its recently announced Cinema EOS C500 and 1D C cameras and showed two short films shot on the new cameras while Sony showed off its NEX-FS700 for the first time which will be a 1080p camera that will be 4K ready via a future firmware upgrade and external recorder. Panasonic showed off a 4K Varicam prototype camera as well as announced its AVC Ultra codec for supporting 4K workflows in its camera ecosystem. Meanwhile, RED, the pioneer in 4K cameras, kept a couple steps ahead of the competition as RED's CEO Jim Jannard posted an announcement late Sunday night on the its RedUser.Net forums giving specs, availability and pricing info on its new 6K (6000 x 4000) Dragon sensor which will be a $6,000 upgrade for its EPIC camera and an as yet undisclosed upgrade price for its Scarlet camera.

The organizers of Classic Gaming Expo announced today that the 2012 Classic Gaming Expo will be held August 11 and 12 at the recently renovated Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The show’s historic ties with Las Vegas, and specifically the Plaza Hotel, made it the obvious choice to play host to this year’s convention.

Dolby Laboratories and Royal Philips Electronics unveiled Dolby 3D, a 3D HD format and suite of technologies designed to deliver full HD 3D content to 3D-enabled devices, including glasses-free displays. Dolby 3D is being demonstrated at the NAB Show (April 16–19, 2012). The two companies have undertaken the joint project to improve the 3D viewing experience on displays of all sizes, including smartphones, tablets, PCs, and televisions. Dolby 3D is a complete system designed to work throughout the chain to deliver clear glasses-free 3D content that operates over existing distribution systems. This will enable content to be created for Nintendo 3DS and the growing number of 3D smartphones.

Yesterday, at a press event in Las Vegas, Nevada, Namco Bandai unveiled its line-up for 2012, with some interesting new projects, including a Dragon Ball Z game for Kinect and an official release date for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (coming this September).  However, it also revealed what had been rumored for months – that a PC port of the hit game Dark Souls is finally coming this August.  Now, the only question is whether users can deal with the service it’s being saddled with.

Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin captured his second career Art Ross Trophy as the National Hockey League’s scoring champion, Tampa Bay Lightning center and NHL 12 cover athlete Steven Stamkos claimed his second Maurice Richard Trophy as the League’s goal-scoring leader, and St. Louis Blues goaltenders Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak combined to win their first William Jennings Trophy as the goaltenders on the club allowing the fewest goals during the 2011-12 regular season. The four trophy winners will be honored at the 2012 NHL Awards, which will be held Wednesday, June 20 at the Wynn Las Vegas.

With the Stanley Cup Playoffs just around the corner, Electronic Arts is adding yet another fan voted cover athlete to its roster of games. Following in the footsteps of NCAA Football and Madden NFL, NHL 13 will feature a cover athlete voted by gamers. The EA Sports NHL Cover Vote Campaign – sponsored by BlackBerry and hosted on NHL.com, kicks off today. The voting process will consist of two preliminary rounds, followed by a 16-player bracket as a field of 60 NHL players is narrowed down to one. The winning player will be unveiled as the NHL 13 Cover Athlete at the 2012 NHL Awards on June 20 at the Wynn Las Vegas in Las Vegas. Namco Bandai Games America has released a free update for SoulCalibur V on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The title update contains new online ranked game search optimization, gameplay tweaks, character balance adjustments for the entire roster based on player feedback. This updated version will be used in the SoulCalibur V Worldwide Finals taking place on April 10, 2012 at the Cosmopolitan hotel and casino in Las Vegas.

The winning team was named on the closing night of the annual D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit at the Red Rock Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. While the NHL All Stars are being celebrated in Canada, the National Hockey League (NHL) has signed a  new, multi-year partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors  Authority  (LVCVA)  that  will  see the NHL Awards return to Las Vegas for the next three years.  As part of the extended partnership, which first  began in 2009, the NHL will stage numerous new events throughout the destination  in  conjunction  with  the  League’s annual post-season awards show.   The world-famous Wynn Las Vegas luxury hotel and casino resort will host the 2012 NHL Awards, which will be held on Wednesday, June 20, at the Encore Theater. This event traditionally has been used to announce the cover athlete for EA Sports NHL videogame franchise, including current cover athlete and All Star Steven Stamkos.

Sony’s MLB 12 The Show franchise has been and continues to be the market leading and most realistic baseball title of this console generation and the number-one rated sports video game over the past four years. Sony had both the PS Vita and PlayStation 3 versions of the new game on display at CES 2012 in Las Vegas. Now the game maker has unveiled the new cover featuring Adrian Gonzalez. The first overall pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2000 MLB Draft, Gonzalez has ascended to the top of his sport, both on the field and at the plate. He is a four-time All-Star (2008-2011), three-time Rawlings Gold Glove winner (2008, 2009, 2011), and 2011 Silver Slugger Award winner. Mention “Kinect integration” to a gamer for an upcoming AAA title and you’ll either get one of two things.  Either you’ll have someone who complains that the device will be used to perform poorly captured motions, possibly ruining the way the product is supposed to be played; or you’ll have someone who feels like it’s just a cheap tack-on to an otherwise overwhelming game experience.  Well, Bioware is brushing both of these possible complaints aside, as it showed us how it intends to use Kinect integration for its upcoming space epic, Mass Effect 3.  And it really is a beautiful thing.

With new Android rival tablets showcased in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012), Apple is apparently ramping up production in China for a March launch for its much-anticipated iPad 3. The new device is expected to feature an HD screen that rivals HD TV sets, a quad core processor for multitasking and 4G LTE support, according to Bloomberg.
