Mention the words "Shigeru Miyamoto" to any given gamer out there, and they'll likely rattle off their favorite moment from a Mario or Legend of Zelda game, in great detail.  There's no question that the legendary designer has left his mark on more than one occasion, serving millions of happy gamers at a time.  However, it looks like he might he slowing down as he approaches his late 50's, as rumors indicate he'll be "retiring".  But to what extent?

The original Mortal Kombat movie wasn't half bad.  Director Paul Anderson convincingly carried the tone from the video game over into an effective PG-13 rated product, and despite a few cheesy moments ("GORO!  YEAHHHH!"), it turned out to be one of the better video game movies to date.  But then New Line Cinema had to piss all over it by releasing Mortal Kombat Annihilation, a jumbled sequel with too many characters, a lame story, and the kind of special effects you'd see from a student production facility.  But luckily, it looks like the next Mortal Kombat film will be up to form...if it's ever released, anyway.

Dragon Age 2 was a welcome evolution of what made Dragon Age: Origins so great. It had better pacing, a loveable cast, an interesting protagonist, a new art style, and even the combat saw improvements. At a recent EA event, I got to go hands-on with the upcoming DLC expansion, Dragon Age 2: Legacy. For my first impression, boldly read on, young adventurer.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced five nominations for Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 3, including for the coveted title of Best Picture; three for Alice in Wonderland, and one each for Day & Night, Tangled, The Tempest, and TRON: Legacy. Although Walt Disney Studios’ TRON: Legacy has become a global box office smash, Disney Interactive Studios’ TRON: Evolution video games have not been able to capitalize on that success. Last year, Ubisoft’s James Cameron’s AVATAR: The Game, also had trouble reaching a mainstream audience. But for Disney, the TRON game has resulted in the closure of the Vancouver game studio, Propaganda Games. Disney already shut down production of the new Pirate of the Caribbean role-playing game last October, which was originally slated to ship this summer in tandem with the new 3D film, Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides.

Disney continues to have success with its TRON: Legacy sequel, something the company didn’t experience 28 years ago with the original cult favorite. TRON: Legacy has earned $51.4 million worldwide from IMAX theaters. That means that 15 percent of the film’s $328.8 million (and counting) global box office came from IMAX screens. Oliva Wilde, who plays Quorra in the 3D spectacle, talks about the movie and the accompanying 3D game, TRON: Evolution, in this exclusive video interview.

In fact, Jeff Bridges, who plays video game designer Kevin Flynn in TRON, is having a very good year. His Western, True Grit, was the number one movie in the U.S. this weekend. True Grit has now topped $110 million and buzz is building for another Oscar nomination for Bridges, who took home the statue last year. TRON: Legacy has earned over $147 million million in the U.S. Bridges’ co-star, Olivia Wilde, talks about the new TRON movie and video game in this exclusive video interview.

LAS VEGAS -- Just as The Walt Disney Studios has been pushing 3D movies at the theaters, including the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the studio is promoting 3D at home at CES 2011. Continuing its leadership in the advancement of 3D entertainment and marking the most significant title commitment to the growing Blu-ray 3D market, The Walt Disney Studios is bringing at least 15 of its films for in-home viewing on Blu-ray 3D in 2011. Although TRON: Legacy is still performing well in theaters, the Jeff Bridges action movie will be coming home in 3D later this year. Another strong theatrical contender, the 3D movie Tangled, will also be coming home on Blu-ray 3D this year.

While TRON: Legacy is not breaking box office records like James Cameron’s AVATAR did heading into 2010, Disney’s 3D sequel is holding strong in 2011. His Western, True Grit, has become Joel and Ethan Coen’s biggest movie ever, blowing past the Oscar-winning No Country for Old Men with $86.8 million. LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - When it comes to the convergence of video games and Hollywood, Tron was the first example of Hollywood getting it right. And in many ways, Hollywood hasn't learned from this perfect marriage of game and film. At least, most of Hollywood.

Generations of fans who waited over 28 years to see Walt Disney Studio’s TRON return to the big screen were eager to catch the film early. TRON: Legacy took in $3.5 million in its midnight screenings around the U.S., which was on par with James Cameron’s AVATAR. The movie’s total Friday box office haul was $18 million. The original movie’s entire theatrical run during the summer of 1982, which included movies like Steven Spielberg’s E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, was $33 million. This bodes well for Disney Interactive Studio's TRON: Evolution games. The creator of the TRON universe, Steven Lisberger, talks about the new film in this exclusive video interview.
