Big Games of 2012: Death Steps Up For Darksiders II

When Darksiders came out from THQ a couple of years back, it introduced the video game realm to Vigil Studios, a team headed up by creative director (and comic book artist) Joe Madureira.  It also left quite an impact on action gamers, one that was right up there with the God of War games.  Now the team is back at work on the highly anticipated sequel, and this time around, a different horseman is stepping up on a quest of his own.

The Next Mortal Kombat Film: Getting the Reboot It Deserves?

The original Mortal Kombat movie wasn't half bad.  Director Paul Anderson convincingly carried the tone from the video game over into an effective PG-13 rated product, and despite a few cheesy moments ("GORO!  YEAHHHH!"), it turned out to be one of the better video game movies to date.  But then New Line Cinema had to piss all over it by releasing Mortal Kombat Annihilation, a jumbled sequel with too many characters, a lame story, and the kind of special effects you'd see from a student production facility.  But luckily, it looks like the next Mortal Kombat film will be up to form...if it's ever released, anyway.

Legacy DLC Gets Dragon Age 2 Booted from Steam

The new DLC for Dragon Age 2, Legacy, has caused the game to be booted from the Steam store. This is merely the latest in a constant battle Valve and EA seem to be involved in since EA started its new digital download service, Origin.  It's a battle that sees no signs of ending any time soon, and who will win is still up in the air. Comic-Con 2011: BioWare Unveils Dragon Age II Legacy

TRON: Legacy Enshrined in New 3D Stern Pinball Machine
In the Hollywood licensing department, it’s better late than never. Stern Pinball has just released a TRON: Legacy pinball machine based on Walt Disney Studios’ last December’s hit movie, which is now available on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD. Disney Earns 12 Academy Award Nominations, Including TRON: Legacy
While its Disney Interactive Studios game division has had massive layoffs, The Walt Disney Company’s film division had an excellent year in 2010. The slate of Walt Disney Studios films have earned 12 Oscarnominations. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced five nominations for Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 3, including for the coveted title of Best Picture; three for Alice in Wonderland, and one each for Day & Night, Tangled, The Tempest, and TRON: Legacy. Game Over for Disney's TRON: Evolution Studio Propaganda Games
Although Walt Disney Studios’ TRON: Legacy has become a global box office smash, Disney Interactive Studios’ TRON: Evolution video games have not been able to capitalize on that success. Last year, Ubisoft’s James Cameron’s AVATAR: The Game, also had trouble reaching a mainstream audience. But for Disney, the TRON game has resulted in the closure of the Vancouver game studio, Propaganda Games. Disney already shut down production of the new Pirate of the Caribbean role-playing game last October, which was originally slated to ship this summer in tandem with the new 3D film, Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides.
