Ugh.  Game of Thrones.  Not the show, mind you, and certainly not A Song of Fire and Ice.  Those are high-quality works that, by all means, shouldn’t be missed, especially for the significant twists and turns.  But the game, recently released by Atlus and Cyanide Studios, leaves a lot to be desired.  It’s fallen completely flat on its face, leaving a diabolically thrilling storyline dangling in the wind because of faulty gameplay and a presentation that can’t compare to The Witcher 2 or even Kingdoms of Amalur.  With that, we’re left wondering…why didn’t someone else grab this franchise?

I love the Game of Thrones show.  Though I admit I still have to get around to finishing the A Song of Ice and Fire book, I’m just so intrigued by what’s happening between the first season and this current one on HBO.  I can’t get enough of it.  That said, I was a bit excited to see how Atlus’ video game adaptation would turn out, especially with direct involvement from series creator George R.R. Martin.  Well, after playing through it for hours on end, I can see where the appeal would lie for some – mainly in the story – but it’s trudging through the rest that will leave you wondering if this game was worth bothering with.

You may have heard about Microsoft upcoming first person shooter called Halo 4, which is releasing this Fall. We are only three weeks away from E3 and new details have started to emerge. Some are predictable, but the latest multiplayer details will catch your eye.

When Namco released the original Sniper Elite for Xbox and PlayStation 2 a while back, it enhanced the job of being a long-distance killer better than Konami’s arcade-style Silent Scope series could – especially considering the seriousness of its World War II mission.  With Sniper Elite V2, 505 Games steps in as publisher, and tells a more fleshed out tale of a US soldier running and gunning through Germany on his own terms, shooting targets from a distance – and up close when necessary – to get the job done.  It has stuff in common with the original game, but feels much more streamlined, not to mention fun.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), which assigns the official age and content ratings for computer and video games, announced a new public service announcement (PSA) campaign starring San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey and pitcher Ryan Vogelsong at AT&T Park. The PSAs, which feature the players explaining the ESRB rating system and encouraging parents to use it when buying games for their families, will soon begin running on television and radio stations throughout northern California as well as at Giants home games this season.

Square Enix developer IO Interactive A/S has created an original DLC game as a pre-order incentive for anyone who pre-orders Hitman: Absolution at GameStop. Hitman: Sniper Challenge is a stand-alone sniper experience for the new game, which hits PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20, 2012.

Big games routinely slip. It’s part of the business. And in the long run, shipping BioShock Infinite in February 2013 may ultimately boost sales of the much-anticipated title. The game industry floods the market with big releases each fall, making it very difficult even for Christmas shoppers to afford all of the top titles. So Ken Levine’s open letter to gamers, which can be seen below the exclusive video, isn’t such a bad thing. Gamers have Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed III and plenty of other big games to play this fall.

We're just going to say it right now.  Far Cry 3 is shaping up to be the best game in the series yet.  The first two games set up great tales of survival, with one man battling the odds through lush terrain and occasionally using feral abilities to get the jump.  The third looks to follow suit with an even more engaging single-player campaign, along with a new focus on multiplayer, where teams can battle it out to control parts of the terrain.  We recently went hands-on with the demo to see how it was coming along.

One of the highlights from this year's PAX East event was a huge standee for Ubisoft's upcoming Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, featuring plenty of action from the co-op side of things.  In the demo, players could team up to defend their home base from invading enemies on all sides, using their various tools of the trade, weapons and accessories alike, to their advantage as they got the jump on their adversaries.  This will be a huge part of the game when it ships later this month for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It’s really weird how some of these April Fools jokes are turning into actual products, isn’t it?  Take a look at the iCade, a miniature iPad arcade cabinet that was first shown as an April Fools joke, but has since become a best-selling accessory for the market.  Now, THQ has confirmed yet another April Fools gag that’s becoming a reality, one that introduces a whole new way to play through the world of Steelport in Saints Row: The Third.

God of War: Ascension was confirmed a few days ago by Sony after months of (badly) being kept secret by the company, and while many are interested in seeing the origins of the series’ violent hero, Kratos, there’s a new element that’s even more interesting.  Sony recently invited us down to an event in Los Angeles to get a first look at the game, but instead of seeing any aspect of single player, we were treated to a glimpse at the proposed multiplayer mode.

It's been rumored for ages, and badly hidden after bits and pieces being revealed on the Internet, including a Target pre-sale tag and registered domain names.  But now it's no longer a secret -- Activision is working on Call of Duty: Black Ops II.  The game, under development at Treyarch, got its "official" unveil this evening during the NBA playoffs, and the trailer leaked online just a slight bit before that.  It paints a pretty bleak picture, taking place in the year 2026 and featuring a number of unmanned vehicles on patrol, which are soon overtaken by a silent enemy looking to wreak havoc.

Sony took the wraps of its much rumored next installment of its best selling God of War franchise with God of War Ascension. This time around, the game will be a prequel to the previous games and introduces multiplayer for the first time. We caught up with the Game Director of God of War Ascension, Todd Papy to get the juicy details in this exclusive video interview along with a first look a gameplay footage and screenshots.

I love The Walking Dead TV series.  What’s not to love?  Even with the drastic changes that have taken place with season 2 (mostly with the departure of producer Frank Darabont), it’s retained all the awesome intensity and scares of the comic book series.  With that, Telltale Games has followed suit with the first of its five-part Walking Dead game saga, one that deviates from events in the show, opting instead to tell its own scary tale.  And you know what?  It’s a damn good one.

Goichi Suda (aka Suda 51) has quite the storied history in gaming, from Killer 7 to No More Heroes to the recently released Shadows of the Damned.  But his latest one could be a bigger hit than all of them, WB Games' Lollipop Chainsaw.  In the game, you guide cheerleader Juliet Starling on a rampage against a horde of rock zombies, with her beloved boyfriend's head by her side.  So, yeah, it's weird.  But that's just part of the fun.

As the sun finally started to subside, an amber glow receded behind the looming mountains in the distance. The sunset was short lived, for a chilling darkness approached. Putrid, red goblin corpses were strewn about in bloody disarray across the hillside. Evidence of a recent battle that paled in comparison to the magnitude of what was to come.

After making a huge splash on consoles last year (and we mean in bright red bloody colors), Mortal Kombat is just about ready to make its portable debut on the PlayStation Vita.  The game includes all the content from the original console game, along with online play, a number of exclusive Klassik Skins and a Challenge Tower that includes various touch screen games, including Test Your Slice (a Fruit Ninja variation) and Test Your Balance.

Throughout the history of video games, the oldest stereotype surrounding the industry has always been do violent video games affect player behavior and personality. It is a known fact that people who play games are exposed to more violence than the average consumer. From nuking entire civilization to obliterating players online, it’s has become more and more common now that games are more focus on squarely providing violent action. For this reason alone, parents have long held an underlining negative attitude towards the industry and those who stand by it, but is this criticism injustice or have developers gone to far? Should government step in?

Once upon a time, the folks at United Front Games -- the developer behind ModNation Racers -- was assigned the task of bringing back Activision's True Crime series with an all new chapter.  But somewhere in the midst of the game's development, the publisher changed its mind, leaving years worth of work simply sitting on the table.  But not one to let, ahem, Sleeping Dogs lie, Square Enix picked up the project, changing its name but not its focus, and allowing United Front to finish up the project for action gamers to enjoy.  This August, the final product will arrive for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

There are some genres where the Xbox 360 doesn’t quite match the PlayStation 3.  In this particular case, it’s brutal action.  Sure, it’s got Gears of War 3, but the console is sorely lacking a competitor that can keep up with Sony’s own God of War franchise.  Sure, Dante’s Inferno came pretty damn close, but the religious overtones stopped hardcore gamers from fully enjoying that one.  Now Climax Studios gives the genre a try with a digital downloadable title called Bloodforge, and while there’s plenty to hack and slash, there’s very little purpose to keep you from doing it for hours on end.
