Over 1.5 million consumers have participated in the Double XP program. Gamers are averaging somewhere in the ballpark of five to eight codes per participant. Despite some problems with the Call of Duty Elite service, Activision is fully dedicated to its billion dollar baby, Modern Warfare 3.  In a recent announcement on the exclusive Elite program Roll Call, Robert Bowling, a long-time member of the Infinity Ward team, announced a release date that would not only kick off the run of downloadable content for the game, but also new features on Elite.

According to new data from Raptr that measures playtime across its 10 million member gamer network, the Call of Duty franchise still dominates the first-person shooter market, despite EA’s major effort to challenge that position with the Battlefield franchise.  Based on automatically tracked gameplay data, Raptr users logged an average of 40% more playtime in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox 360 than Battlefield 3 on the respective games’ launch days, despite unprecedented gamer enthusiasm and a significant marketing push for the launch of Battlefield 3.

Before Activision steals the spotlight with the November 8 launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Microsoft and Epic Games have been able to celebrate big sales numbers with Gears of War 3. Following more than 22,000 midnight madness launch events, the new game sold more than 3 million copies in its first week worldwide. Gears 3 is currently the biggest game of 2011 and the franchise has now sold over 16 million copies globally and generated over $1 billion in lifetime sales.

LOS ANGELES – At Call of Duty XP 2011, Activision debuted the world premiere of Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish. The short film is a sequel by filmmakers from digital agency We Can Pretend and visual effects company The Junction. Set between the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2, the film tracks the origin story for soldiers Soap and Price. The sequel was funded by Activision, after the original became an Internet sensation and the game maker Infinity Ward loved what they saw from the passion project. LOS ANGELES – Hollywood celebrities showed up for Call of Duty XP 2011 to take in the multiplayer mayhem of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and check out the live action activities surrounding the game franchise. Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Marisa Miller and Bucky Larson star Nick Swarsdon decided to take on the real-life Scrapland paintball challenge. The 16 vs. 16 player game took place outdoors in a faithfully-recreated arena that captured all the elements from the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer map. Check out the action in the video below.

As the world celebrates the biggest game franchise at Call of Duty XP in Los Angeles, Valve is making it easier for gamers to access the PC version of the latest installment. PC gamers will be able to download Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 through Steam this fall. Valve confirmed that the new game from Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games will be able to use the Steamworks suite of services. Pre-purchase reservations are now available via Steam, which has over 30 million accounts around the world.

What you drink could influence how you play Modern Warfare 3. Activision is already manufacturing millions of copies of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition cases. The first picture of the new game was revealed by Infinity Ward. Full details on what will be packed inside the over-sized case will be revealed in September at Activision’s Call of Duty XP event in Los Angeles. Modern Warfare 3 ships November 8.

We've seen some gutsy moves when it comes to promotion, but Electronic Arts is really stepping up.  Over the past few weeks, the company has been pushing Battlefield 3 something fierce, which has led to a boost in pre-orders -- even beyond its greatest competition, the supposedly unstoppable Modern Warfare 3.  But today, we saw a bold move that we didn't even see coming -- a website redirection that has no doubt left a few at Activision feeling a cold burn.

Electronic Arts is giving players a chance to play one of the big games of 2010, Medal of Honor, on PC early with the Multiplayer Open Beta. Starting on October 4, the Open Beta will allow players an opportunity to sample Medal of Honor’s rich multiplayer mode before the full game launches on October 12. For a limited time, PC gamers worldwide are invited to sample two diverse maps and two action-packed multiplayer modes.
