ORLANDO -- The will he, won't he drama surrounding Dwight Howard has ended, at least for this year, with Howard terminating his opt-out clause in his contract and remaining with the Orlando Magic for another year. When asked what Howard would do now that everything is over at his press conference today, Dwight Howard replied "I'm going to go home and play video games. That's what I'm going to do" Howard is known as a hard-core video gamer and even boasted to us at the recent NBA All-Star Game that he can beat anybody in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as seen below in our interview with Howard.

Last week marks the week of numerous boxes of chocolate being consumed, roses being delivered, and all of that lovey dovey stuff thanks to a little day called Valentine's Day. Surely, plenty of people are probably still feeling a bit hyper thanks to all of that sugar their loved one gave them as a gift. There could be no better timing for a new DLC map for Modern Warfare 3, giving people a chance to expend all of that excess energy learning a brand new map and making an example of other players.

Kim Dotcom, the founder and mastermind of the beleaguered file-sharing site Megaupload that was recently shut down by authorities, doesn't just face prison time and substantial fines for his alleged crimes, he has also lost his status as the world’s highest ranked player in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. With millions in the bank and a huge mansion from his illegal file sharing empire, Dotcom apparently had a lot of time on his hands and was playing a lot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 under the gamertag MEGARACER. Dotcom had earned the top spot in the first-person shooter video game late last year, according to MSNBC. With around 15 million players worldwide and over $1 billion in sales, Modern Warfare 3 is one of the best selling video games of all time.

It's inevitable.  The game industry likes to thrive with new technology, whether it's a new handheld like the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita, or a new hardware system that introduces an innovative new way to play.  With the Wii U ramping up for release this year, both Microsoft and Sony are thinking hard about their next systems, and today we've run across rumors of what the big "M" will have in mind for its hardware.  Our only concern is that they might be rushing things...

Let's make it clear right now -- the Consumer Electronics Show isn't really about video games.  Sure, they definitely have a place in the consumer electronic world when it comes to entertainment, but the show is more focused on the technological side, with gadgets, TV's and other high-priced technology that's really out there.  But some game companies managed to show up anyway and show off their wares, so we've got the wrap-up on what we saw, and whether it was really worth it.  Let's get started...

It's no secret that Activision is working along with Treyarch on a new Call of Duty game for release later this year.  It's become a yearly franchise and, hey, it's made this much money for them, so why stop now?  The only question remains is just what game we can really expect.  Another classic shooter?  A Future Warfare title?  Well, according to a registered domain name that was recently taken, the title may have just gotten a little clearer -- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

2011 brought a lot of sequels our way.  Some were necessary improvements to formula, while others had us scratching our heads wondering what was up.  (NOTE: Resistance 3.)  Anyway, we've decided to count down our top ten favorite retail games (a downloadable list is coming very soon), along with a few honorable mentions for good measure.  You might be shocked to see what takes number one.

Amazon experienced records sales with more than just its bestselling Kindle Fire, which sold over 4 million units in December alone. The online retailer has become the go-to Internet site for everything from technology to videogames, thanks to huge sales that expand beyond Black Friday. Activision and Rovio had great years with their Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Angry Birds games. Sledgehammer Games talks about MW3 in the exclusive video interview below.

For every "best of" 2011 list that is out there, there's an equally atrocious "worst of" list.  We've already run down the movies that really stunk this year, and now it's the game industry's turn.  And while we were a bit surprised that neither Brink nor Duke Nukem Forever made the list, there was still plenty of stink to go around.  So, without further ado, here are the ten games that really blew chunks...

In this case, it was Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Mountain Dew brought Brandon Ervn and three of his closest friends to Dallas as part of its Mega Fan Experience. It's a marketing offshoot with Wal-Mart that's aligned with the Call of Duty Double XP program, which is currently running on MW3 bottles of Mountain Dew beverages. The four guys were able to play quad-screen multiplayer for two hours at Cowboys Stadium, the largest stadium in the world. Ervn talks about what the experience was like to have a custom armchair and Jerry Jones’ stadium all to themselves, except for those cheerleaders, in this exclusive video interview.

While James Cameron doesn’t have anything to worry about when it comes to the final tally of his Avatar 3D epic, Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 did the director’s film in the race to $1 billion. MW3 earned $1 billion in just 16 days. It took Avatar 17 days to reach that milestone. It’s worth noting that Activision chose not to release the new game in 3D after experimenting with 3D in Black Ops last year across all platforms.

When it comes to the big games of 2011, Bethesda Softworks’ epic role-playing game (RPG) Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, beat out all competition to become the most played game of 2011. Even with the late start – the game launched in November – the shear size of the game propelled the RPG to the top of Raptr’s charts. In fact, Skyrim was so big it took two awards based on actual gameplay data – Overall Most Played Game and Most Played RPG. It also didn't hurt that the game has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.

Twihards came out in force at midnight screenings at over 3,521 theaters last night as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 grossed $30.3 million at so-called Twihard screenings matching the approximately $30 million that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse earned at midnight screenings in June 2010 and better than the $26.3 million New Moon pulled in at midnight in 2009. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 holds the midnight record earning $43.5 million earlier this year at its midnight screenings on its way to a record-setting $169.2 million opening weekend. Movie industry experts expect Breaking Dawn to  gross up to $150 million this opening weekend. This, of course, all pales in comparison to video games where Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 grossed approximately $400 million on its first day and $775 million in its first five days. We talked to some of the cast and crew of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 at the world premiere of the movie in downtown Los Angeles earlier this week. Check out some of the highlights in this exclusive video.

Although these past few weeks have been jam-packed with a plethora of top-notch titles, the world has had their sights on two games in particular - Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. EA has made it their priority to do their best to top the highest grossing franchise of all time, and the fanbases of both franchises have been taking shots at each other, claiming their favorite game is the better. Now that both games have hit the shelves and virtual battlefields have been the littered with bullet shells and bodies, it's time to get to the nitty gritty and discuss which game takes the throne of the FPS release of the year. I'm going to look at Modern Warfare 3, and examine the 3 key components of the game - campaign, co-op, and mulitplayer - to show why I believe it is the better of the two.
