NEW YORK CITY – ESPN reporter and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Erin Andrews is in EA Sports new NCAA Football 13 game. Andrews was at the NFL Draft to check out the PlayStation 3 game for the first time, alongside some of the top NFL rookies including Robert Griffin III, Michael Floyd and Trent Richardson. Award-winning composers Jason Graves (Dead Space) and Kevin Riepl (Gears of War) have created an original score for Resistance: Burning Skies, Sony’s new PlayStation Vita first-person shooter. Developed by Nihilistic Software, Resistance: Burning Skies is the PS Vita debut of Insomniac Games’ Resistance PS3 franchise. Graves and Riepl each wrote forty minutes of orchestral music for the shooter. Resistance: Burning Skies ships on May 29.

NEW YORK CITY – Calvin Johnson, Jr., wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, was selected by millions of fans across the country to grace the cover of Madden NFL 13, which will hit store shelves August 28.  Johnson, a No. 6 seed, defeated fellow NFL Pro Bowler Cam Newton, a No.1seed, in a thrilling matchup culminating in a live unveiling on ESPN’s SportsNation and a cover photo shoot for the winner in New York City’s Times Square. This year’s vote campaign surpassed last year’s totals by 54% (19.6 million vs. 12.7 million), ending with Johnson triumphing over Newton by a final margin of 52% to 48%. NEW YORK CITY – EA Sports kicked off the countdown to the latest installment of Madden live in Times Square before the 2012 NFL Draft by allowing fans to choose the cover athlete of the game on ESPN’s “Sports Nation.” Calvin Johnson edged Cam Newton in the battle, but gamers will be glad to see EA is expanding its Madden franchise to new systems. Madden NFL 13 will debut on Sony’s PlayStation Vita come August 28th. And the game will implement Kinect technology for the first time.

Electronic Arts is adding another big game to its lineup for 2013. Joining SimCity next year is Crysis 3 from Crytek. Set in a very different New York City, Crysis 3 puts players in the role of Prophet. With the entire city encased in a Nanodome called the Liberty Dome, the environments players will be exploring are swamplands, rivers and dense overgrowth. In other words, players will be exploring a literal jungle, not an urban one.

To celebrate the launch of the Super Mario 3D Land game for the Nintendo 3DS hand-held system, Nintendo gave fans in New York City a chance play the game early and live the life of Mario in real life. Gamers were able to play inside Mario’s 3D world with life size warp pipes, trampoline coin jumps and a flag pole finale. Rocker John Bon Jovi brought his kids out to see Mario in person in Times Square.

The world of Harry Potter comes to life in New York City. In celebration of the Blu-ray release of the final Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, on November 12 and 13 the International Quidditch Association (IQA) will host the 2011 Quidditch World Cup (QWC). Nintety-five college quidditch teams will descend on New York City to compete in a live action-packed sporting event, best described as “a cross between the Super Bowl and a medieval festival.” The two days will feature 450 games with live music, entertainers, food and drink vendors, and many other exciting events.

To celebrate the launch of the Super Mario 3D Land game for the Nintendo 3DS handheld system, Nintendo had hundreds of Marios invade Westfield Horton Plaza in San Diego. But that was just the start. The game maker is also giving fans in New York City a rare opportunity to experience the new 3D game early. Anyone who visits Times Square on November 12 will be invited to play inside Mario’s 3D world with life size warp pipes, trampoline coin jumps and a flag pole finale. NEW YORK CITY – South Park Digital Studios debuted its second South Park video game to attendees at New York Comic Con (NYCC) this weekend. Fan favorite Scott Tenorman has returned with a vengeance in the new downloadable Xbox Live Arcade XBLA vgame South Park:  Tenorman’s Revenge.  The platformer will be available in spring 2012 from Microsoft Studios and developer Other Ocean Interactive. Fans will get to play as Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny as they battle Scott Tenorman and his Ginger army.  The game’s multi-player co-op features allow players to team up with up to four other players locally or through Xbox LIVE to save “South Park.”

THQ has enlisted German game developer Crytek to bring Homefront 2 to gamers. The original game was created by New York City-based Kaos Studios, which THQ closed earlier this year. Crytek has had success with Crysis 2, which Electronic Arts released earlier this year. This likely means the new game will run on the CryEngine, rather than Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3, which powered the first Homefront title.

Microsoft is pulling out all of the stops for one of the big games of 2011. Gears of War 3 is getting 20,000 midnight launches across the country. Epic Games final chapter in the original trilogy hits stores at midnight on September 20.  The game is already the fastest pre-selling Xbox exclusive in history.

Following the critical acclaim of his rousing music score for Insomniac Games' Resistance 2, Los Angeles-based Hollywood film composer Boris Salchow (80 Minutes, Prom Night) returns to craft a darker cinematic soundtrack for Resistance 3 - reflecting the struggle of the remaining group of human survivors against an overwhelming force of alien invaders.  To capture an authentic and unique sound for this alternate history sci-fi story set in the 1950's, Salchow and Insomniac recorded the emotionally diverse musical score with orchestra at the historical Abbey Road Studios in London.
