With the Lakers vs. Celtics match-up a reality – and also the name of one of EA Sports early basketball videogames, Electronic Arts has changed the name of its NBA game franchise. NBA ELITE will be the new moniker of the long running NBA videogame franchise.  NBA ELITE 11 will revolutionize the way basketball simulation games are played, with an all-new technology base, a new control scheme and a real-time physics system. Currently in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, NBA ELITE 11 will be available in retail stores this October. The game will be shown at E3 2010.

After months of non-stop infidelity tabloid stories, Tiger Woods is set to return to golf today in Augusta, Georgia at The Masters. EA Sports used this week’s Masters as a backdrop to launch its first online golf game, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Online. On MSNBC, EA Sports President Peter Moore defended the game publisher’s choice to stand by Woods, while companies like Accenture and Gatorade cut ties with him amidst the adultery and sex scandals.

Miami, Florida – There was more than just Super Bowl XLIV between the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts at stake this week in Miami. Maurice Jones-Drew took home the other trophy – a diamond encrusted Madden Bowl Xbox 360 console – at Madden Bowl XVI. In front of hundreds of NFL players at the swank Clevelander Hotel on South Beach, the Jacksonville Jaguars running back pummeled linebacker Patrick Willis of the San Francisco 49ers 13-3.
