If you're a huge fan of Sony, then you had to have played at least one of the SOCOM titles at some point. The series from Zipper Interactive is one of the more storied franchises, dating back to the PS2. SOCOM was one of the leaders of bringing tactical shooting to console gaming and has continued to do so ever since its debut. In just little over a week, SOCOM 4 will be hitting the shelves and fans will be plugging up its servers. In anticipation for the game, a multiplayer beta has been released, with this past week being open to everyone and not just Playstation Plus owners. I spent a decent amount of time playing it over the week and I have to say that from what it looks like, you're better off passing on the multiplayer.

Well lookie here, it appears that Sony is deploying a little early present to folks who either pre-order or purhcase specially marked copies of SOCOM 4 on the PlayStation 3 in the form of access to the Resistance 3 Beta. I know, I know--it sounds like some kind of cereal advertisment about a surprise at the bottom of a box of sugary cereal, but if you think about it, it kind of is.
