Retro/Grade has quite the story behind it.  This downloadable game for PlayStation Network has been in the works for some time, introducing a new style of music/rhythm gameplay that ties in with a space shooter -- in a way.  We've seen it at a number of events, including last year's PAX Prime in Seattle, but upon seeing it at this year's PAX East 2012 event, we were treated with some good news.  The game is finally coming out later this year, as part of Sony's push to bring innovative new downloadable experiences to the PlayStation 3.

Every once in a while, an independent game simply demands attention, mainly because it’s so different from the norm.  We’ve gotten a lot of these over the years, stuff like Limbo, Braid, and so many others like it, and they’ve gone on to great success for the studios that made them, giving them the attention they deserve.  Joining these ranks is Fez, a retro-style platformer that’s been in the works for several years over at Polytron.  Originally announced for a release in 2010, the game has been stuck in development for some time.  However, some recent good news points the way towards a release…and it isn’t far off.

LOS ANGELES – 20th Century Fox has enlisted first-time director Josh Trank with a brand new superhero franchise. And for good reason. He created it with screenwriter Max Landis (Frankenstein). Chronicle, which hits theaters February 3, 2012, follows the thrilling journey of a trio of teenage boys who uncover super powers in Seattle.  The thriller was filmed in the found footage sub-genre made popular by movies like Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity. Chronicle is shaping up to be one of the big movies of 2012, as the trailer below shows.

Some might say that the arcade is dead...and some of you would definitely be right.  When the home video game business boomed in the 90's, it pretty much spelled doom for the old mom and pop arcades that flourished in the 80's, as well as the arcade game business in general.  But some folks never gave up on the form, and today they have found a sudden resurgence in the nightlife market, living on as "barcades", drinking establishments mixed in with classic gaming.  And they've been quite successful.

Seattle – One of the big games of 2012 will be the PlayStation 3-exclusive action game, Starhawk. The spiritual successor to Warhawk will add ground combat to the flight action for a unique blend. The game, which is being developed by Lightbox Interactive, was on display at PAX Prime 2011. Seattle – Sony used PAX Prime 2011 to show off new vehicular combat in the much-anticipated Twisted Metal game. The revival of Sony’s longest-running franchise was just delayed until Valentine’s Day 2012, giving developer Eat, Sleep, Play more time under the hood. Nintendo wasn't afraid to show off its latest stuff at PAX Prime this past weekend in Seattle.  Among the highlights of their booth were several playable kiosks for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, a game that'll be thrashing its way to Nintendo Wii this November.  If you're a fan and can't wait to get the game, you might want to put down your money on the collector's edition coming your way.  It's got some cool goodies.

Seattle – Bethesda Game Studios focused on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Rage at Pax Prime 2011. Gamers were able to get hands-on time with both titles, as well as listen to Skyrim Game Director Todd Howard discuss the game during an exclusive panel. Seattle – Valve Software, which is based in Seattle, used the local video game convention, PAX Prime 2011, to debut its latest game. Counter Strike: Global Offensive was on display at Valve’s booth for gamers to get a first look at. Counter Strike has been a staple of the pro gaming circuit and remains one of the most beloved shooters of all time by gamers. A first look at the sequel can be seen in the trailer below.

Seattle -- Nintendo continues to push its troubled 3DS with gamers at PAX Prime 2011. With the recent price drop, Nintendo hopes that its strong lineup of first party games featuring Mario, Star Fox and Link will entice more consumers to make the 3D leap. Sega continues its year-long celebration of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary. The game publisher had a full lineup of titles at PAX Prime 2011 in Seattle. Located at Booth 3625 on the show floor, the company had a pair of new Sonic games playable -- Sonic Generations, which is the first 3D Sonic game, and Sonic CD.

Seattle -- Razer, a maker of high performance gaming hardware, is using PAX Prime 2011 in Seattle to introduce gamers to the Razer Blade – a full aluminum chassis gaming laptop featuring true portability, incredible performance, and an all-new revolutionary user interface. With the introduction of the Razer Blade – a feat of modern-day systems engineering and technology, Razer is reinvigorating technological and design innovation for the entire PC industry, and encouraging gamers and developers to return to the PC as the primary gaming platform of choice.

Seattle – Ubisoft is supporting PAX Prime 2011 with its largest line-up of games to date. The game publisher is offering a diverse lineup of games for attendees to get their hands on before the official releases. The company also offered fans an exclusive Assassin’s Creed Revelations panel on Friday, August 26th with new information on the bestselling game franchise.

Seattle -- Square Enix unveiled Quantum Conundrum, a quirky and engaging first-person platform puzzle game from Airtight Games and the co-creator of Portal, Kim Swift, at PAX Prime 2011. Quantum Conundrum will be available for download in early 2012 on Steam for Windows PC, the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

InXile Entertainmentis showcasing Choplifter HD at its booth at PAX Prime 2011. The game will be available for its first, public hands-on demonstration from August 26-28 in Seattle, WA. SEATTLE -- 2K Games and developer Gearbox made a surprise reveal at the PAX PRIME 2010 in Seattle when they showed the game for the first time. PAX Prime 2010, also known as the Penny Arcade Expo, is an annual public show centered around video games. Many of the top video game companies are on hand to show off their latest products, some for the first time like Duke Nukem Forever. Duke Nukem Forever's reveal quickly became the biggest story at PAX because of its long history of false starts and its surprise appearance and announcement at PAX that caught even the game media by surprise.
