No Bones about it – ha, I made a funny – J.J. Abrams’ reboot of Star Trek in 2009 was quite the successful one, despite all the lens flare.  The movie reintegrated interest in the franchise, thanks to a great young cast and a story that actually made sense to fans.  And with a sequel on the way next year, we can only wonder what next great step is gonna happen within the video game realm.  Well, thanks to Namco Bandai games, we know.  Set phasers to stun-ning.

Trekkers have a lot to look forward to all of a sudden in the gaming space. There’s the new Star Trek game coming out from Paramount Pictures Interactive Entertainment and developer Digital Extremes in 2012, which is set in the new movie universe. And for those who want to go retro, there’s Star Trek: Infinite Space. The new free-to-play, browser-based game is set in the Deep Space Nine universe, which also correlates with Star Trek: The Next Generation. Gameforge talks about the new game from developer Keen Games, which focuses on epic space battles, in this exclusive video interview below.

Free-to-play online game publisher Gameforge AG has seen over 300 million registered users. Gameforge has seen rapid player expansion -- adding 100 million registered users since August 2010, or more than 8 million new users each month. The company expects further growth from upcoming products, most notably Star Trek - Infinite Space, which has been announced for 2011. Star Trek – Infinite Space is the first official browser game set in the Star Trek universe and will mark a new era for the genre in terms of visuals. The game company will be showcasing games at Gamescom 2011 in Cologne, Germany.

LOS ANGELES – One of the surprise hits of E3 2011 was Paramount Digital Entertainment’s Star Trek. The new game from Digital Extremes casts players for the first time ever as Kirk and Spock in an original co-op experience worthy of gamers and fans. The game, which continues the adventure that director and producer J.J. Abrams’ envisioned with Star Trek (2009), boasts an original stand alone story filled with action-packed combat as Kirk and Spock work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy.

With Microsoft kicking off E3 in disappointing fashion, it was up to Sony to try to get things back on a happier track with a press conference that would feature better games and other content. Sony had a lot on its plate at E3. They suffered a network outage that lasted over a month due to it being hacked, leaving many PS3 owners upset. Plus, they had a new piece of hardware to show off. Things started to go their way as the Playstation Network was back in full force before E3. Did Sony capitalize on its momentum and blow us away with a great press conference?

For about the last month and a half, Sony has been all over the news and in many blogs posts due to the PSN outage. It was a troubling time for the company, but they managed to overcome the obstacle in the end and get things back to the way that they should be. Now, Sony will be featured in the news with the announcement of the PS Vita at their E3 press conference. Just in time for E3 2010, German videogame publisher Gameforge has inked a worldwide licensing agreement with CBS Consumer Products to publish free-to-play (F2P) browser games based on the legendary science-fiction franchise Star Trek. Acquiring the Star Trek license marks the start of Gameforge’s global expansion, as the online game publisher begins development to bring the Star Trek universe to life in browser-based properties, beginning in 2011. The first games under the international licensing agreement will take players into the deep reaches of space in the Star Trek Classic timeline as well as the tumultuous and vibrant timeline of Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

Videogame publisher Atari and Del Taco, the nation’s No. 2 Mexican fast food chain, have partnered on a special promotion allowing eager fans early access to the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online game, Star Trek Online. Created by Cryptic Studios, Star Trek Online for PC is set to release on February 2, 2010 in North America and will feature the voice acting of both Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy as the two Spocks.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – With J.J. Abrams’ re-boot of Star Trek on the big screen (and on the new Blu-ray Disc and DVD release), Gene Roddenberry’s most famous sci-fi creation continues to boldly go – there’s a sequel in the works. But Roddenberry Productions is also branching out beyond Star Trek with a new comic book, Days Missing, which could spin off with movie, television and videogame projects. Trevor Roth, COO of Roddenberry Productions and the creator of Days Missing, talks about the new comic book and discusses the impact the Star Trek movie’s success could have on future videogames.

When it comes to standouts in 2009, actress Zoe Saldana has definitely made a name for herself in Hollywood. The actress, who first got her taste of a Hollywood blockbuster with Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, stars in two of the biggest sci-fi films in recent history with James Cameron’s Avatar and JJ Abrams’ Star Trek (now out on Blu-ray Disc from Paramount Home Entertainment). Saldana will portray Uhura in the upcoming Star Trek sequel, as well.

Leonard Nimoy is reprising the role of Spock one last time. After helping to jumpstart the new film franchise this year with J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot, Nimoy will be heard as Spock in the 2010 release of Star Trek Online. Atari and acclaimed MMO developer Cryptic Studios announced that Leonard Nimoy, the actor who originated the legendary and beloved Star Trek character of Spock more than 40 years ago, has joined the cast of Star Trek Online, the first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) ever set in the Star Trek universe.
