With the NBA tip off just around the corner, 2K Sports is gearing up for some competition from EA Sports NBA Live 13 for the first time in a few years. To bolster its NBA 2K presence, the game publisher is unleashing NBA 2K Everywhere this October. Virtual basketball is now going to be available anywhere via an all-new mobile companion application, a social game on Facebook, and a full-featured mobile version of NBA 2K13 for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android devices. The developer talks about the new game in this exclusive video interview below.

All aboard the hype train for NBA 2K13.  2K Sports' latest basketball simulation is just over three months from release, set to arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 4th (and on the Wii U when it arrives at retail), and promises a bunch of changes that will certainly make it the most realistic one that the company's released. And to help push the hype further, 2K has chosen a trifecta of current NBA superstars to grace the cover, a step forward from the solo cover stars that graced it previously.  Surprisingly enough, currently crowned NBA champ LeBron James nor series favorite Kobe Bryant are amongst the three stars.

Visual Concepts will face competition from EA Sports Tiburon for the first time ever. 2K Sports debuted NBA 2K13 at E3 2012 just as EA Sports showed off NBA Live 13. The basketball franchises will go one-on-one this fall with the start of the 2012-13 NBA Season as the Miami Heat seek to repeat as world champions. Erick Boenisch talks about what’s in store for NBA 2K13 fans in the exclusive video interview below.

For the past couple of years, 2K Sports has been dominating the paint with its NBA 2K franchise, as 2K12 managed to sell well over five million copies, thanks to the help of a talented development team and, of course, a virtual Michael Jordan.  But the pressure is on this year, as EA Sports is bringing back NBA Live in a big way.  2K, however, isn’t breaking a sweat.  Live didn’t even make it to E3 this year, and the team had its own plans with NBA 2K13, which it showed to us behind closed doors.

Earlier this month, we reported on the story that 2K Sports was looking to launch its latest basketball sim, NBA 2K13, sometime in early October, and would have the game ready to hit the floor of E3 next week.  Today, 2K Sports confirmed the story, stating that its championship series would indeed be heading back to stores to once again dominate the paint.

After a fiscal report that questioned the future of the Major League Baseball 2K franchise, we were wondering if 2K Sports had gotten a little soft, concerned about how they could compete with their main rival, EA Sports.  Well, we got our answer today with a nice tomahawk jam to the face, in the form of an announcement for NBA 2K13.

For the past couple of years, 2K Sports has literally dominated the paint with its NBA 2K series, starting with teaming up with Michael Jordan for NBA 2K11 and eventually other legends in NBA 2K12.  But now, EA Sports, a company that’s been out of the simulation basketball game since it scuttled its NBA Elite 11 project, is about to hit the hard court once again with the recently announced NBA Live 13.  The real question is, does it stand a chance?

Carmelo who?  A year or so ago, the New York Knicks thought that Carmelo Anthony would be the answer to their problems, making a big blockbuster trade to the Denver Nuggets in order to get him.  But since that time, they haven't really been able to really succeed, despite Melo trying to hustle to the hoop.  However, it's not that guy who's shining for the team right now, as he's currently out on injury (and possibly set to return this weekend).  No, the real star is a guy that was once cut by the Warriors and the Rockets, Justlin Lin.  Ever since he was added to the Knicks roster a little while back, he's been on fire.

Up until about late last year, basketball fans were worried that the NBA lockout, which lasted about half a year, was going to doom the forthcoming season.  However, following a last second meeting, both sides eventually came to an agreement, and though we've got a shorter season than expected, NBA games have finally returned.  And 2K Sports is tributing the return of the players, coaches and everyone else with their own special video, comprised of clips from its hit basketball game NBA 2K12.

2K Sports is ready to play ball with Justin Verlander, ace pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. He’s the cover athlete for the upcoming Major League Baseball 2K12. Verlander was selected yesterd by his peers as the Players Choice Award winner for Player of the Year and American League Outstanding Pitcher. With baseball just around the corner, gamers can get a first look at Verlander in the new game in the video below.

The NBA season is rapidly approaching, as we're six days from its kick-off on Christmas day.  With that, 2K Sports has been pushing into overdrive to update its excellent sim NBA 2K12 with all the necessary changes and trades.  The company has informed us today that its latest roster update has gone live, and we've got all the changes right here for you.

It’s a little annoying to see sports games get downloadable content added on a couple of months after their release, mainly because folks already spent so much money for the main product and now have to plunk down a few extra bucks for some more good stuff.  But that’s how business rolls for other games these days, so it’s not a big deal.  Plus, when it’s as good as NBA 2K12’s new Legends Showcase, you really see where the value adds up.

2K Sports is running full speed on updates for NBA 2K12, in order to prep for the upcoming season, which kicks off in less than two weeks on Christmas day.  And to start things off, it's already uploaded its first roster update, which does feature the addition of a few rookies, as well as some noteable trades.  But not everything is perfect with it...

11.28.11

When developers put some effort into making an iPad game, some try to pull out all the stops and replicate the same kind of experience you’d get from a game console.  The Apple tablet is a respectable game machine, after all, especially if you’re playing something along the lines of Dead Space or the awesome Infinity Blade.  But sometimes you can try to pile on too much, and as a result, it mars the experience.  That’s exactly what happens with 2K Sports’ NBA 2K12.  The company shoots for a quality simulation, right up there with the console versions, but it comes up short in key areas.  It’s like the thrill of seeing someone go for a fast break and then miff the dunk at the end.

11.27.11

Well, it took long enough -- around 150 days to be precise -- but it now looks like the NBA is kicking into high gear again for a Christmas debut.  With that, some updates will be coming to NBA 2K12, 2K Sports' awesome basketball sim, that will reflect things happening within the season.  Among these updates will be the addition of rookies to the roster.

11.03.11

Last year's release of NBA 2K11 was a colossal hit for NBA fans, but this year's release of NBA 2K12 turned out to be even better.  Still, there are those who haven't quite converted over to the old game yet, sticking to Jordan's old guns from last year.  But they might want to switch over soon, as 2K Sports is reportedly deadset on shutting down the basketball game's online servers sometime in the middle of this month.
