Goichi Suda (aka Suda 51) has quite the storied history in gaming, from Killer 7 to No More Heroes to the recently released Shadows of the Damned.  But his latest one could be a bigger hit than all of them, WB Games' Lollipop Chainsaw.  In the game, you guide cheerleader Juliet Starling on a rampage against a horde of rock zombies, with her beloved boyfriend's head by her side.  So, yeah, it's weird.  But that's just part of the fun.

After making a huge splash on consoles last year (and we mean in bright red bloody colors), Mortal Kombat is just about ready to make its portable debut on the PlayStation Vita.  The game includes all the content from the original console game, along with online play, a number of exclusive Klassik Skins and a Challenge Tower that includes various touch screen games, including Test Your Slice (a Fruit Ninja variation) and Test Your Balance.

Throughout the history of video games, the oldest stereotype surrounding the industry has always been do violent video games affect player behavior and personality. It is a known fact that people who play games are exposed to more violence than the average consumer. From nuking entire civilization to obliterating players online, it’s has become more and more common now that games are more focus on squarely providing violent action. For this reason alone, parents have long held an underlining negative attitude towards the industry and those who stand by it, but is this criticism injustice or have developers gone to far? Should government step in?

In Boston, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s official cosplay girl Jessica Nigri was told to put on more clothes by PAX East 2012 officials. Her outfit, which you can see in this exclusive video interview below, was deemed too sexy for the public game show. Nigri talks about Juliet Starling and her new Suda 51 game Lollipop Chainsaw in the video below.

In preparation for The Dark Knight Rises summer movie blockbuster, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment are adding new content to the critically acclaimed bestseller Batman: Arkham City with a Game of the Year Edition.  The expanded version of the award-winning blockbuster videogame developed by Rocksteady Studios is ship in North America on May 29 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The developer talks about the game in the exclusive video below.

When The Witcher 2 came out for PC last year, gamers everywhere were entranced with its open-ended world, hours full of quests and decisions that would eventually shape the fate of Geralt of Rivia, the main hero (or anti-hero) of the game.  So when we heard that WB Games was interested in porting the game to Xbox 360, we were intrigued, while at the same time concerned, considering that most PC-to-console ports didn’t meet with that much success.  However, leave it to CD Projekt RED, the original game’s developer, to not only step up to the task, but exceed it, giving the Xbox 360 one of its better adventure games since Skyrim and Kingdoms of Amalur.  And that’s saying something.

It seems PAX East has a problem with booth babes. Although attendees were allowed to play the Mature-rated game at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s booth and gawk at a virtual Juliet Starling, the convention said the “family show” had no place for the official cosplay real-life version of game creator Suda 51’s heroine, Jessica Nigri. You can see Nigri in action in the WBIE video for Lollipop Chainsaw below.

Developer CD Projekt RED and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) have provided a syllabus of terminology for those new to The Witcher gaming universe. With The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360 and PC launching April 17th, the developer talks about what’s in store with this new game in the exclusive video interview below.

Even though Harry Potter mania has pretty much died down with the release of last year’s Deathly Hallows Part 2 film, it’s a “better late than never” situation when it comes to the release of Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7 on PlayStation Vita.  After all, the handheld didn’t have a Lego game to call its own before this came out, and it did pretty well when it came out for consoles last year.  So, yeah, this release makes sense.  And while it’s not as fully featured as we were expecting, it’s a decent port that fans of both the Lego franchise and the Harry Potter series will happily embrace.

Mortal Kombat was a colossal hit when it came out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 last year, reaffirming the strength in the franchise after all these years.  So, naturally, the development team wanted to continue the trend, releasing the Komplete Edition last month and following suit with the series’ debut on PlayStation Vita, coming next month.  What can fans look forward to when it comes to the portable edition?  Plenty.

SAN FRANCISCO – “Where does he get those wonderful toys?” That’s a quote from The Joker that gamers will actually be hearing for the first time ever in a LEGO videogame. TT Games is adding voices to its LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes game this summer. It’s one of many new features that the game will introduce this summer when it ships across all platforms.

A game as demented and vibrant as Lollipop Chainsaw demands a voice cast chock full of colorful and experienced actors to bring it to life. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Grasshopper Manufacture have collaborated with filmmaker James Gunn (Super, Slither, Dawn of the Dead) to assemble a cast of Hollywood talent to flesh out the characters and create a wonderfully wicked world of gumdrops and gore. The actors discuss the new Suda 51 game in the video below.

SAN FRANCISCO – The cloud gaming service Gaikai cut deals with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to begin the streaming of the Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons Online to players across North America directly from each game’s own website. For the first time ever, Gaikai is streaming massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) from the cloud, straight to players without the need for any download or installation.

The Game Developers Conference is literally hours sway from kicking off, but the fun has already begun down here in San Francisco.  Monday night, Warner Bros. Games hosted an event for Lollipop Chainsaw, its upcoming action game from Suda 51, the creator of such games as No More Heroes and Shadows of the Damned.  If you remember how crazy those games got, you’ve probably got a rough idea of what Juliet brings to the picture – including her heart-encrusted chainsaw.

Doing a “director’s cut” of a game is nothing new in the game industry.  A lot of companies have come through with Game of the Year editions, featuring extra downloadable content right on the disc or offering a small bonus to those who may have missed out on the game before.  This time, it’s Mortal Kombat’s turn, and one of 2011’s best games, a successful relaunch of a long-running fighting franchise, gets a great package with the Komplete Edition.

Remember the old Midway Arcade Treasures releases?  Or for that matter, Midway’s Greatest Hits on the PS One?  I sure do.  I spent hours on end reliving the games of my youth thanks to these compilations, and I couldn’t get enough of them.  But ever since the company was scuttled a couple of years ago, I always wondered if they would come back in some form.  And while I would’ve preferred a release on a console over an iOS-enabled device, I’ll definitely take what I can get from Midway Arcade.  This is a collection of arcade bliss that everyone should experience.

Consoles and PC's have had a slow month interms of new AAA quality games arriving for your respected platform. While January got off to a slow start, it quickly recovered to bring us high quality tittles through digital distribution. Plenty of great downloadable arcade tittles were made available through XBLA, PSN and Steam, giving us many hidden gems on the digital marketplace. Let's look back at the games we reviewed over the past month.

When you think "Batman" and "video game", you usually think of something dark, foreboding and completely involving, like last year's stellar release of Batman: Arkham City.  But you don't really think shooter, nor anything that goes tongue firmly in cheek, do you?  That's why it's so fascinating to see Monolith, the developers behind the F.E.A.R. series, go against type and create a game like Gotham City Impostors.  Not only is it something you'd never expect from the DC Comics Universe, but, holy rusted metal Batman, it's actually fun.

01.17.12

There's no question that 2011 was a big year for the Mortal Kombat franchise, as Netherrealm Games effectively relaunched the franchise and made fighting relevant again, complete with over-the-top fatalities and bonus characters that piqued our interest.  (Freddy Krueger?)  But it looks like 2012 will be just as eventful for the series, as the team has not only announced a new Komplete Edition that's coming to consoles later this spring, but also its debut on the PlayStation Vita.

01.05.12

When it came out a few years ago, Lego Batman struck a chord with both avid comic book fans and younger players, introducing the fun Lego dynamic to the DC Comics universe and allowing players to fight for both good and evil.  The game became an instant hit, so it should be no surprise that WB Games has announced a sequel, with Travellers Tales once again handling development.  What is surprising, though, is that the action isn't just limited to the Dark Knight's universe this time around.

Warner Bros. Pictures is set to release the first part of director Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14, 2012. The 3D epic is being shot in collaboration with 3ality Technica in New Zealand. One of the big movies of 2012, the first trailer for The Hobbit is below. And you can bet that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has a new game set in this movie universe coming in time for Christmas.

Although many people have upgraded to Blu-ray Discs, the majority of Americans still view movies on DVD. While the overall home entertainment market is still hurting as more people rent than buy movies, blockbuster event movies still entice purchases. Warner Home Video had a very good year with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I and II dominating the chart. Disney has a trio of kid-friendly movies, including Cars 2, which is featured in the exclusive video interview with Owen Wilson and Eddie Izzard below. And it's worth noting that every movie, save for Bridesmaids, had a videogame tie-in for gamers to further explore these worlds.

12.24.11

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is experiencing record sales for Rockstar Studios’ critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham City this Christmas season. And the new trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ The Dark Knight Rises has smashed the record for most combined downloads through the iTunes Movie Trailers site and the iTunes Trailers iOS app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The trailer was viewed more than 12.5 million times in its first 24 hours on December 19, breaking the previous record by well over two million. The HD trailer can be viewed below.

If a Caped Crusader pounding the living crap isn't enough to get you in the holiday mood, honestly, nothing is. Batman: Arkham City is no doubt one of the best games of the year, and to celebrate its forthcoming domination over the holiday season, Rocksteady Studios has announced a few goodies and DLC deals for fans of the Dark Knight.  Hey, beats having Christmas with the Joker, doesn't it?
