Microsoft's Kinect device has already done a serviceable job connecting kids with their favorite characters.  Just look at the success of Once Upon a Monster from Tim Schafer and his team at Double Fine Productions.  But it looks like that's just the beginning of the team-up between Microsoft and Sesame Street, as the company introduced a whole new level of interactive programming for kids last night during its CES keynote.

LucasFilm is drumming up marketing support for its first 3D Star Wars theatrical released, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is adding the third dimension to all six films over the coming years, starting with the February 10th release. But the saga begins today as the Brisk mobile game app, Brisksaber, brings the iconic Star Wars lightsaber battles to smartphones. The free app will feature a progression of content that allows fans to incrementally unlock new characters and objects based on the nationwide redemption of codes found on specially marked packages of one-liter Brisk Iced Tea.

As you saw from a report that we posted this weekend, Microsoft had big problems with its UFC on Xbox Live app.  Despite allowing select users to watch the fight for free, there were a number of technical errors that marred the experience, mainly the lack of a solid video feed and the inability to watch an offered replay.  But Microsoft is aware of said problems, and is promising to make the matter right for subscribers.

Telltale Games is bringing back the longest-running show in TV history. In conjunction with Universal Partnerships & Licensing, the new game Law & Order: Legacies is available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch on Apple’s App Store. Disney Worldwide Publishing (DPW) has launched a new, interactive storybook app for young readers featuring the voice of comic book legend and Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee. The Amazing Spider-Man: An Origin Story app provides a new way for DPW’s hundreds of thousands of readers worldwide to experience comic stories. Complementing the original book from the Marvel Origins storybook series, the app retells the story of Peter Parker’s transition from teen to Super Hero with music, activities, and more. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has expanded the reach of its ratings App to Microsoft Windows Phone 7. This free mobile app, from the organization that assigns age and content ratings for computer and video games, allows easy access to video game ratings and detailed rating summaries.  For parents, it’s as simple as snapping a photo or typing the name of a game to quickly determine if it is right for their family. With the violent video game debate still brewing, this App makes it easy to find out all about any game instantly. Of course, the info is also written right there on the box.

If you want to play video games, you have a choice between 3 consoles or your PC to play them on. However, that all began to change once OnLive was introduced last year. OnLive is a subscription service that allows you to play whatever game you want without the need of actually buying the game. With over 20 publishers supporting the system, OnLive currently holds a library of over 100 games. OnLive has announced at E3 that there will be an OnLive Player App, allowing tablets and other mobile devices to run the same service on-the-go.

Starz Digital Media, the digital and on-demand licensing arm of Starz, announced today the upcoming launches of its first social media game, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, and iPad multimedia script app for the “Spartacus” Starz original series. The Spartacus: Gods of the Arena social media game is free to play and brings players into a world of fame, fortune, glory and (of course) blood, all via a Facebook social gaming experience.  A full public launch of the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena social media game is planned for January 20, prior to the exclusive debut of “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” on Starz, January 21. Disney Publishing Worldwide has launched its Disney Epic Mickey App for viewing Disney Digicomics on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch on the App store. The first Disney Digicomic available in the app is “Tales of Wasteland,” which comprise six eight-page short comic stories that take place in Wasteland, an alternate world made up of Disney’s forgotten creative efforts. Users get a preview of Wasteland and feature characters from the upcoming Disney Epic Mickey video game, including Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney’s first cartoon star. Electronic Arts' Visceral Games has launched ‘Go to Hell’, an all-new social application inspired by the upcoming 2010 game release, Dante’s Inferno. This application takes the poem’s canonized nine circles of hell, and brings them into everyday life.
