NEW YORK CITY – Calvin Johnson, Jr., wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, was selected by millions of fans across the country to grace the cover of Madden NFL 13, which will hit store shelves August 28.  Johnson, a No. 6 seed, defeated fellow NFL Pro Bowler Cam Newton, a No.1seed, in a thrilling matchup culminating in a live unveiling on ESPN’s SportsNation and a cover photo shoot for the winner in New York City’s Times Square. This year’s vote campaign surpassed last year’s totals by 54% (19.6 million vs. 12.7 million), ending with Johnson triumphing over Newton by a final margin of 52% to 48%. NEW YORK CITY – EA Sports kicked off the countdown to the latest installment of Madden live in Times Square before the 2012 NFL Draft by allowing fans to choose the cover athlete of the game on ESPN’s “Sports Nation.” Calvin Johnson edged Cam Newton in the battle, but gamers will be glad to see EA is expanding its Madden franchise to new systems. Madden NFL 13 will debut on Sony’s PlayStation Vita come August 28th. And the game will implement Kinect technology for the first time.

Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin captured his second career Art Ross Trophy as the National Hockey League’s scoring champion, Tampa Bay Lightning center and NHL 12 cover athlete Steven Stamkos claimed his second Maurice Richard Trophy as the League’s goal-scoring leader, and St. Louis Blues goaltenders Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak combined to win their first William Jennings Trophy as the goaltenders on the club allowing the fewest goals during the 2011-12 regular season. The four trophy winners will be honored at the 2012 NHL Awards, which will be held Wednesday, June 20 at the Wynn Las Vegas.

EA Sports unveiled the first Madden NFL 13 screenshot showcasing new Nike uniforms. The EA Sports development team was granted early access to the new designs of the NFL uniforms and used this insight to meticulously recreate the Nike clothing in Madden NFL 13. Nike signed a five-year exclusive deal with the NFL, which brings Reebok's reign as official clothing manufacturer to an end in real life and in videogames.

Following in the footsteps of NCAA Football and Madden NFL, NHL 13 will feature a cover athlete voted by gamers. The EA Sports NHL Cover Vote Campaign – sponsored by BlackBerry and hosted on NHL.com, kicks off today. The voting process will consist of two preliminary rounds, followed by a 16-player bracket as a field of 60 NHL players is narrowed down to one. The winning player will be unveiled as the NHL 13 Cover Athlete at the 2012 NHL Awards on June 20 at the Wynn Las Vegas in Las Vegas. Since March 7, fans nationwide have been casting their votes to determine the next cover athlete for Madden NFL 13, logging 4.3 million votes during the play-in round and more than 8.5 million votes since the start of the bracket phase of the competition on March 21.  Weekly fan voting will determine which of the remaining 16 NFL players will advance through seeded brackets - culminating with the unveiling of the Madden NFL 13 cover athlete winner on ESPN's SportsNation on April 25 at 5 p.m. ET. EA SPORTS and ESPN are once again allowing fans to cast the vote for the next Madden cover athlete. The Madden NFL Cover Vote campaign for Madden NFL 13 has officially kicked off. Last year, nearly 13 million votes were cast through ESPNSportsNation.com and ESPN mobile in both companies’ most successful cross-platform activation. Tenth-seeded Cleveland Browns running back, Peyton Hillis, trucked through the six week competition all the way to the ultimate end zone – the Madden NFL 12 cover. The Oklahoma City Thunder star was featured in promotional photos on the cover of NBA Elite, an EA Sports game that was shelved and never hit stores. After a few years of no hoops, EA Sports is coming back with NBA Live 13 next season. And Durant is still open to being on the cover. Howard is a two-time NBA videogame cover athlete, having worked with both EA Sports on NBA Live and Midway on NBA Ballers. OTTAWA – NHL All Star Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks won the Skills Challenge Breakaway Challenge donning a Superman cape. The forward didn’t need a cape to win the Stanley Cup the same season he was on the cover of EA Sports’ NHL 10 game. The 2008 NHL Rookie of the Year has been a scoring sensation for the Hawks, along with captain and NHL 11 cover athlete Jonathan Toews. While the NHL All Stars are being celebrated in Canada, the National Hockey League (NHL) has signed a  new, multi-year partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors  Authority  (LVCVA)  that  will  see the NHL Awards return to Las Vegas for the next three years.  As part of the extended partnership, which first  began in 2009, the NHL will stage numerous new events throughout the destination  in  conjunction  with  the  League’s annual post-season awards show.   The world-famous Wynn Las Vegas luxury hotel and casino resort will host the 2012 NHL Awards, which will be held on Wednesday, June 20, at the Encore Theater. Sony’s MLB 12 The Show franchise has been and continues to be the market leading and most realistic baseball title of this console generation and the number-one rated sports video game over the past four years. Sony had both the PS Vita and PlayStation 3 versions of the new game on display at CES 2012 in Las Vegas. Now the game maker has unveiled the new cover featuring Adrian Gonzalez. The first overall pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2000 MLB Draft, Gonzalez has ascended to the top of his sport, both on the field and at the plate.
