I wanted to review Dust: An Elysian Tail because it looked beautiful. That and because, being part of XBLA's Summer of Arcade, the game had a chance at joining the revered company of titles like Braid, LIMBO, and Bastion.

The free-to-play market had a huge showing at E3 and was showcased at Sony’s Online Entertainment booth. Recently SOE converted all of its most popular MMOs into the model, giving new life to D.C Universe while reintroducing fans to the PlanetSide series.

It seems that every PAX event has a huge presence from Red 5 and their product Firefall.  Last year at PAX Prime, they had one of the largest booths on the floor, along with plenty of banners and a huge power drill at one of the entrances, which was running every hour on the hour.  The team is obviously thrilled about the game, and it's getting a bigger and bigger community as it goes along.  During PAX East, we stopped by their booth to get the skinny on what's happening with the game.

We're just going to say it right now.  Far Cry 3 is shaping up to be the best game in the series yet.  The first two games set up great tales of survival, with one man battling the odds through lush terrain and occasionally using feral abilities to get the jump.  The third looks to follow suit with an even more engaging single-player campaign, along with a new focus on multiplayer, where teams can battle it out to control parts of the terrain.  We recently went hands-on with the demo to see how it was coming along.

Last year, Orcs Must Die! from Robot Entertainment (consisting of prior employees from Ensenble Studios, the makers of Halo Wars) really shook things up on both PC and Xbox Live Arcade, with players getting into the bloody, strategic action of killing hundreds of orcs using melee attacks and various gut-busting traps.  Now, the team is at it again, bringing Orcs Must Die! 2 to the front this fall with two-player co-op action, more traps and, of course, more dead orcs.  Who could ask for anything more?

Mention the words "Shigeru Miyamoto" to any given gamer out there, and they'll likely rattle off their favorite moment from a Mario or Legend of Zelda game, in great detail.  There's no question that the legendary designer has left his mark on more than one occasion, serving millions of happy gamers at a time.  However, it looks like he might he slowing down as he approaches his late 50's, as rumors indicate he'll be "retiring".  But to what extent?

Sony's gearing up for a strong 2012 season, between the upcoming Twisted Metal and Starhawk, the rumored God of War IV, and now a new project that's looking more like an actuality with each new day.  The project is called Title Fight, and it looks to be Sony's equivalent of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros., with several familiar characters duking it out for supremacy.

On November 15th, 343 Industries - the powers that be in the Halo universe since 2007 - are delivering a labor of love. If you count yourself among its legions, you'll recall that Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is a visual remastering of the ten-year-old game that started the fight for fans both old and new.

Making a video game isn't easy, but it's hard work that truly pays off if the right effort goes into it.  Just ask Alex Howell, associate designer for the just-released EA Sports game NCAA Football 12.  To commemorate the game's release, Alex and his team worked closely with the folks at ESPNU on a four-part documentary that covers the making of the game, both through the highs and the lows.  While we wait for the first part of the four-part series to air on July 14th (on ESPNU), we chatted with Alex about the documentary.
